Glee

I actually didn't like the last episode as much. It was too predictable, and they seemed to have changed out the musical numbers for bullshit teen melodrama. They really need to deep six the "I'm pregnant" subplots and ice out the annoying secondary characters.

I was cringing a little bit during the football dance. I guess that was the point, but it did feel a bit predictable and over the top in an embarassingly funny kind of way. Also, Maybe this is just the problem with watching one episode a week, but I thought this was a musical. Let Rachael Sing, and part of Taking Chances doesn't count. I like the musical element of this show and this last episode felt lacking in that department.

Ya. It's funny how they seemed to have forgotten all about Glee club in the span of 1-2 episodes, isn't it? I guess they figured teen pregnancy and exploring sexual identity were more "juicy" themes to play off of.

At my high school, the drama kids were the popular kids. I was in drama yet I was still unpopular. The only character I particularly recognize is Rachel. There were a lot of Rachel divas at my high school, although most of them were way bitchier.

There were also a few black girls that were kinda like the black girl on this show. But I think they only acted that way because they'd seen too many movies.

If they wanted it to be like my high school choir program, they'd need way more Mormons.

My interest is fading fast. Other than Jayma Mays being her totally adorable self, I don't like any of these characters. Since I was mostly tuning in for the musical numbers, I may just buy the soundtrack when it comes out instead. There are times when the wit of this show is almost Wonderfallsian in its brilliance but its too sporadic. I think it may just end up being too easy for me to jump ship, particularly since its on at the same time as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

I'm also thrilled it's already been renewed!

For a 2nd season or just for the back 9 of Season 1?

My 16 year old son adores the show and wonders if there's something wrong with him. Not at all, I assure him--I like it too.

Wait, was that reassuring?

Just remind him not to tell anyone at school he's a fan.

The show was picked up for the back 9. However because it's going to be on after American Idol in the spring that will bring the ratings through the roof and give it a second season.

If Dollhouse and 'Til Death can get a 2nd and 4th season then Glee should be able to get a 2nd.

What made that scene work was that they got guys who could really dance, even the kind of over weight looking ones. That sent it over the top for me, because you know that in real life no players on any high school football team would look anything other than ridiculous doing that dance. Well, I guess they did look ridiculous but the fact that the guys could really dance made the scene funny to me.

I ran a marathon of the first four eps online during the weekend, and I'm hooked. The show definitely is over the top, funny and has heart. Are there exaggerated characters on this show? Sure. But so do "Chuck", "Burn Notice" and "Dexter", other shows that I enjoy immensely so that's hardly a knock IMO.

Almost everything that comes out of the cheerleading coach's mouth is comedy gold. The dance numbers are cute and the songs (both retro and modern) are done well. Overall I am very happy with this show and hope it does well.

It was a tad predictable, but I think this one may be the best episode of the season. I hear so much talk about Chenoweth but haven't really seen her in anything. She was great in this episode, and they actually brought back the thing that made me enjoy the first and second episode, The music. Some great performances tonight, with Last Name, the Duet April and Will did (Even though I wish it was longer) and that awesome Duet between Rachel and April. This episode reminded me why I watched this show in the first place and it was great.

One other thing I did like. I kind of chuckled when they revealed Sandy's last name as Ryerson. Nice tip of the hat to one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time. ;)

Anyone know who's cover of Blondie's "Heart Of Glass" that was playing in the background of the scene introducing Kristen Chenoweth (the scene in the real estate house)? It was a really great version of the tune and I would love to track it down.

I think the show is starting to wear off it's fun welcome. It's still enjoyable, but not as much as it used to me.

Plus the singing... some of it is so horribly done I couldn't stand it.

Agreed that the show is losing it surprise & fun factor. And once that's gone, I don't like any of the characters, except for the cheerleading coach & Jayma Mays. And with the cheerleading coach, you know how they say that a hero is only as good as his villain. I think we're seeing the opposite here; a great villain wasted by being pitted against a dull doormat of a protagonist. (I swear, was Will one of the rejected characters from the cast of Dear John?)

Rachel is an obnoxious diva that I simply cannot sympathize with. Lack of humility is not a dealbreaker for me. In fact, many of my favorite TV characters (Eric Cartman, Rodney McKay, Arnold Rimmer) are among the most arrogant pricks in the history of fiction. But I get the sense that I'm supposed to sympathize with Rachel rather than be entertained by her character flaws. That doesn't work.

Finn has his moments but he doesn't have the charisma to carry the show. And dammit, somebody needs to. The rest of the cast are such cyphers.

So how is everyone liking the recent episodes of Glee. For me, it's pretty much the same. I tune in for the music and hope the story is decent. Wish the whole thing with Sue and Will as co-directors lasted longer though since that was a fun episode. As for this one last week, not so much fun. Kinda getting tired of the whole wedding/pregnancy storylines.

I saw advertisements for the show here (on channel 10), but never really thought about watching it, but thanks to recommendations from one of my favourite friends here. I decided to watch an episode last week, and enjoyed it. Then watched it again last Thursday night.

I'm a bit meh about it, it's waaaaayy out of my demographic, but I was flicking past the show when the football game was on and they did that routine to the Beyonce song. That was damned funny! :D

The first 13 episodes come out on DVD December 29th.

I like it because it's so goofy funny. However if the coach wasn't in the show I wouldn't even bother watching it.

Also the way the music is done is sometimes really good, and sometimes really really bad.

I keep getting pulled back by the music. I still pretty much don't like any of the characters as people, at least none of the ones we've seen the most of. I hate how Will's wife doesn't have one single redeeming quality.
