Giving STO Another Try

I am only going for the ship this year as i did not buy much with the favours last year and still have a few thousand taking up room in my bank, so 2 mins to do the ship once a day is fine....9 days to go. ha

Hey. Like the OP of this thread, I've given STO a shot again, lately.

I used to play on PC, but with my characters long gone, I decided to start anew on the PS4.
I have a few questions:

- The character creator is so laggy on my PS4. Is that normal? Also, some windows clip into other windows.
- Is it possible to modify the UI? I seem to remember it was possible on PC.
- Have the colour palettes been altered? I made an alien, and couldn't give her pink hair, the closest options were all purple. I remember one of my old chars having pink hair.
- How do you skip cutscenes on PS4? I spammed every button I could think of, to no avail. I do remember skipping cutscenes, given the amount of characters I had.
- Most importantly, is it normal that I couldn't choose traits at character creation? Even afterwards: I go to my character, and there are tabs for stats and career, but not traits.

^^ As a PC player I cannot answer all of your questions, but until a PS4 player comes along, here's something that may or may nor work the same way:
- The UI can be modified a little - you can turn on/off individual menus and change their position on the screen. Some, like the BOFF skill bar, can also be reshaped. There is a Rearrange HUD button in the same menu as Options and Change Character. And there's color pallettes as well, in Options on the Basic tab.
- Character color options are tied somewhat to the species of the character. For example you can't make a human with green or blue skin. Hair should be fairly wide in its options though.
- You should have at least 3 trait slots on your character at the beginning for traits, and unlock more with level-ups. Traits are in a tab by themselves on PC, in the character menu next to Skills. This includes slots for both personal and ship traits. Depending on the species you picked, a 4th trait slot will be locked to your species, unless you went with 'alien' which is a complete blank slate.

I don't know about PC, I know that it's been on PS4 exclusively for a while, but on the XBox...

THE MONSTER MAROON HAS ARRIVED!!! 550Z in the Zen Store under the "Costumes" tab:

Next part of the yearly event is up until 17th August giving you a chance to grab another possible 1000 points towards that 3500 goal and the prize of your choice from the three rewards.

I don't know because on both occasions while having both picked the space one has come up first.....i mean it's easy enough, just park yourself in front of the incoming mobs and cry HAVOC !, and lets slip the dogs of warrrrr!. Lol

Ugh. I don't like the space TFO for this one. What's the ground one like?

I like it, but I like ground generally. Narratively, you have to purify the giant crystal thing on Pahvo from Terran agonizer devices. It's not too bad, the team splits up (or not, but it goes faster) to purify 3 sets of 3 small crystals, then you head back to the center of the map to fight bad guys. Each crystal is a timed 'hold the spot' type of thing, with the third in each set being a little bit more difficult. The return to the center is mostly 'kill bad guys as they beam in' but you are technically guarding three points from the bad guys.

Yeah, think I'll skip that - I'm getting used to the space one, must've just had a particularly useless PUG first time round. Fleet mark reward for this seems pretty good compared to Hive or Conduit, is that a boost from the event or is it always like that? I normally get 125ish marks from it vs 100-110 from the other two (with the daily bonus).

I've gotten back into it recently and I must admit, the game has come a LONG way from the horrible state it was in back when it was rush released. Originally, it was just two factions and the Federation was the only one that had a PVE storyline. Klingons had to make due with leveling thru boring repeatable side missions or PVP. There were no cutscenes and very few voiceovers. Plus there were so many bugs and broken missions that I threw up my hands and gave up after about level 30.

Logging back in ten years later I see they've fixed a lot of the problems, though ground movement is still jerky (an engine problem that can't be fixed.) There are way more factions to choose from including 3 federation, one Klingon , Romulan and Dominion.(If they ever make a Borg faction, I'd play forever.) Space combat is always fun and so is the customization options. I don't find the FTP restrictions to be that bad because there is good variety with what you are given. The only group stuff I've done so far is the deep space encounters, which seem to be fewer than before but fun when I can get to them.

^^Yeah a lot of stuff has been fixed and added over that time, but i do miss the ground missions were the game would crash you back to desktop 3 times during them. lol

Temporal recruit event is coming up on 8th Sept for anyone who missed it during the Agents of Yesterday launch (like me) - great time to create a TOS character. Especially as it unlocks a bunch of account-wide rewards which will help boost your alts (or in my case the solo fleet).

And if you go to Qo'nos after that mission, he's still hanging around in his usual spot!

And folk complain about Shaxs on Lower Decks!

Quark sold the Klingon High Council a hologram of him that everyone in the Empire can kill.

:)

I'm glad I switched to my Shard Sword of Khaless to kill Aakar, though.
