Gillian

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Did anyone else see this?

I only noticed it on my second watch.

The name of the shuttle that Kirk and McCoy board to go to the Enterprise is called Gillian.

How cool to have a nod to Voyage Home and one of Kirks future lovers (we can speculate but it was obvious) in there. :techman:

Well, good golly, go out and get a copy of the movie!

(just kidding - I thought it was Gillian, too, but later on, when McCoy is smuggling Kirk onto the shuttle, you can see that it's an "M" at the end - at least that's where I think you can tell)

I only noticed the name at the last possible minute, just as they were hauling ass into the shuttle.

It looked like Gillian as i read it so quickly without having a chance to focus, i thought id mention it.

Never mind.

Another thread to archive into the anals of obscurity. :)

Thanks for mentioning it; I tried to make it out a couple times. But there were too many male backsides going into the shuttle right then and I didn't give it my best effort.

LOL well we can understand why you were distracted....;)

Check again, the shuttle's name is Gilliam.
Yeah, it's Gilliam, as in director and former Python Terry Gilliam.

I was going to say as in Terry...as a joke ....but if you're saying it...then it's true...why would they reference Terry in the film?

Thats what i was thinking.

Im a massive Python fan, including all their solo works etc, but i cant find a link between JJ and Terry.

Are they friends, did they work together on something or is JJ, like most of us, a massive Python fan and decided to name a shuttle after him.

One of the other shuttles (see it here, click on the first image) is named "Moore", it's being assumed for BSG's Ronald D. Moore. It may be that the shuttles in the movie are all named for directors/filmmakers whom J.J (or someone involved in the art/design decision-making process) admires or respects, in the same way that Captain Richard Robau is named for a favorite uncle of Roberto Orci's and the Kelvin after Abrams' grandfather.

Unrelated, and I'm sure there's a thread for this stuff I'm just missing, but is there a cadet named Vader?
