Caller X: The questionnaire after the movie asks about the character, if we wanted to see more. (We knew this already.) He said that added Tatum would probably be better because of the chemistry between hm and Roadblock and that the character was developed in the first movie. He mentions Jinx as having no character arc at all and Flint as being portrayed as a jerky kind of guy, but there is no character development on him at all. Joe Colton 3-4 scenes, these felt like a reshoot already. The scenes are decent but feel like and after thought. Something just added on.

And Variety is reporting that Hasbro has recalled the toy line for Retaliation:

With Paramount moving the actioner from June 29 to March 29, 2013, to give it more muscle at the box office with 3D, retailers are being asked to send back the line of Hasbro toys that were starting to appear on shelves.

Yeah . . . but I'm willing to bet most of those spoilers aren't worth beans when the movie finally gets to theaters. That is a major part of the speculation surrounding the delay in release, that

they will add more Channing Tatum scenes and have him be a part of the whole movie instead of "dying" at the beginning. Also, based on other accounts it seems as though Duke's death is ambiguous anyhow since he reportedly runs behind a vehicle that gets blown up and we never see a body. Reminds me of the Rex "death" sequence in the first one.

Variety are talking out of their bungholes. the toys are on sale: Hasbro issued a statement saying what's already been shipped will remain on sale and that's it until March for new Joe toys.

The article is kind of weird because in one sentence they state that Hasbro is recalling all the merch but the Hasbro quote they use is more in line with your post. Par for shoddy internet reporting and editing, I guess.

Big Bad Toy Store are still selling the toy line. This kind of reminds me of what happened with "Cabin in The Woods". It was originally pushed back because the studio wanted to convert it to 3D. I don't buy that excuse...it surprises me that they did this.

That they'll probably do is have leave the beginning of the movie alone and add some scenes at the end where they discover and rescue Duke. Tatum might not be the best actor, but for most of the audience, Duke is G.I. Joe. Doing what they originally had planned to do would have been like Bay killing of Optimus Prime permanently in ROTF. You lose your audience. A perceived death of the central character makes a good plot point, you have to bring them back at the end to keep your audience.
