GI Joe 2

First movie Paris, second movie London. Why does this franchise hate European cities?

No landmark is safe!
I think it's the franchises way of selling this as more than just "A Real American Hero", it's a Global assault team trying to save the world wherever the danger rears it's head.

In the series Cobra attacked London, took the Eiffle Tower, made the Russian army disappear!

@Captain Craig...I honestly didn't like the first movie. Channing Tatum is not Duke to me, and is just a bad actor in general. Aside from this it did have some good qualities. Joseph Gordon Levitt as The Doctor/Cobra Commander was a highlight for me. Chris Eccleston as Destro was pretty good as well. Dennis Quaid as General Hawk was inspired casting IMO, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow lived up to expectations, Alan Silvestri's score was amazing, but it just was a flawed film. I've been hesitant to see this movie until the last couple of trailers, especially this last one. I'm even kind of excited now :) COBRRRRRAAAAA!!!!!

Like I've said before, I like the first one as dumb fun, but this one actually looks like it could be a legitimately good movie. I've also become a big fan of Lee Byung-hun after watching some of the South Korean spy tv series IRIS, so I'm glad to see him back.

@Admiral Young...I wouldn't say I liked the first Joe either but I didn't hate it. I think I gave it a C grade if I recall. Your thoughts are really about spot on to mine. Tatum was not Duke and I agree with your thoughts on the others. The other thing that rubbed me a bit wrong was Marlon Wayans as Ripcord. Or maybe more importantly the way they chose to portray him. I guess the producers felt a team "funny man" had to be included so they made Ripcord that guy.
The accelerator suits I waffle on, I think on paper it likely sounded good but the execution was a bit off.

I rather liked the first movie and I'm looking forward to seeing Adrianne Palicki in the second one.

That's BS.

I wanted to see this movie. As much as TDKR.. mainly because I'm a G.I. Joe fan. And It was amongst blockbusters I looked forward to.. this film even had Trek 2's original release date.

those assholes. Now I don't want to see the film at all. Those greedy bastards. This is called milking every extra penny they can.

Fuck

I'm holding out hope that this is an elaborate hoax that somehow got reported. You do not delay a major movie one month from release when there's posters in every theater, TV spots, toys already on the shelf, and 7-11 is printing the slurpee cups.

If this is true, then it is one of the most moronic things I've ever heard, and will hurt the film's box office far more than help it.

I know Paramount thinks this is a good move(and maybe it will be) however anticipation for this has been building.
I would worry that there may be a backlash and/or loss of interest with the push back happening at this point. Under 2 months till release.

It's ripe for trouble imo.

seems like an odd, last minute decision. i wonder how much they've already spent on advertising the film. i was looking forward to seeing this too.

The press release from Hasbro (via BleedingCool.com):

Hasbro, Inc (NASDAQ:HAS – News) and Paramount Pictures, announced today that G.I. JOE: RETALIATION will now be released in 3D. The film, originally slated for release in June 2012, is scheduled to be released March 29, 2013.

“It is increasingly evident that 3D resonates with movie-goers globally and together with Paramount, we made the decision to bring fans an even more immersive entertainment experience,” said Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s President and CEO. “In 2012, we continue to have several strong motion picture and television entertainment backed properties that are selling well at retail and our entertainment strategy remains strong and on-track,” Goldner said. “Through our own Hasbro Studios for television and in partnership with several movie studios including Paramount, Universal, Sony, and Relativity, we are creating entertainment experiences around many of our highly popular iconic brands. For the full year 2012, we continue to believe, absent the impact of foreign exchange, we will again grow revenues and earnings per share.”

Um...what?

Crappy news! The longer this turd takes to be released, the longer it will be before GI Joe can get a decent reboot

Translation: "The test screenings were CATASTROPHIC, and we're hoping everyone will have forgotten all this by March of next year so we can hope to at least break even on this megabomb. Releasing straight-to-DVD/Blu Ray won't cut it. We can't afford two Battleships in a row."

Seriously, it's either that or the entire upper level of Paramount Pictures needs to be fired for criminal incompetence. Who ever heard of a major summer action movie (in the last, oh, 2-3 years) that DIDN'T already have a 3-D converted version ready to go (unless the producer/director specifically said no 3-D)??

What I'm hearing is that they're doing the conversion for the overseas market where 3D is king (and where the first movie really made its money).

“It is increasingly evident that 3D resonates with movie-goers globally and together with Paramount, we made the decision to bring fans an even more immersive entertainment experience,”

This whole quote reeks of bullshit.
This quote makes it sound like some new magnificent amount of data has suddenly emerged on 3-D and it's possible contribution to the bottom line. The proof of this pudding was shown a few years ago.

There is something afoot and this is quote and the move is all part of damage control on some level.
Test Screening?
Battleship..um, sinking!
Something?

It's not cause of "wanting to give the audience a more immersive experience". If I still feel jazzed about this next March to care to see it like I currently do I'll be seeking out a 2-D viewing. You can count on that.
