Gi.I.Joe trailer: fails to fail

Goddamn this looks good!

Everyone has been ragging on this movie ever since the first few stills of the Delta-6 Accelerator Suits came online. Now of course the hardcore Joeists are going to hate this updated version of G.I.Joe no matter what. But if you think of this as a fast summer movie this looks fun as hell! Mind you, Terminator 4 seemed like that too but we all know what a fuck of fail it came out to be. Even though I am still miffed about it not being an American team, but as long as the movie is fun I am willing to overlook that little aspect (just like fans did about the destruction of one of Sci Fi's most beloved planets in Star Trek).

What do you guys think of the trailer?

I know nothing about GI-Joe...

Looks silly to me and I don't think like ST nor Iron Man can get that casual audience in to see it. Looks like a big failure at the BOX OFFICE.

"GO! GO! GO!"
"Here they come..."
"We're running out of time!"

Jesus, throw in "Let's get outta here!" and you'd have the most cliched script of all time.

I thought the trailer looked pretty awful. Looks like another bland, over-the-top action movie. I'll pass.

Making a movie about an action figure, they're really scraping the barrel here. Hmmm, I'd bet a good amount of money that the plot is going to be swiss cheese. Something that really irks me nowadays is why plots have holes in them, its just like, jeez put a bit of effort, logic isn't the hardest thing to grasp.

I'm looking forward to it...mindless fun just like most movies are that are released in the summer time anyways and this is from a major sci-fi/comic book geek.

CGI-Joke more like it... they just stuck the name on there and renamed a few characters to an otherwise unrelated movie. It looks nothing like the cartoon. Not that I really care for the accuracy of a fanatic, but come on, that's nothing like the cartoon. The suits alone are ridiculous. I don't think it was all that impressive either.

Indeed, Teelie. And it's a shame because there was great potential for GIJoe.

I thought they changed it back to being an American group.

Chris Eccleston left Doctor Who for this? I liked the first trailer better, which has an intriguing beginning. It now becomes apparent that this movie will be about cool looking, though preposterous action scenes and clichéd action flick one-liners.
Well, I'll still see it, probably, for Chris Eccleston. I really want to see him on the big screen once. But it does seem to be one of those movies where you have to switch your brain off to enjoy it.

I think this movie looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

I don't get the total hate for it based on a few of the trailers.

Um...Transformers...

Well, from the trailer, it looks like the same sort of trite and formulaic action shit that Hollywood's been churning out for the better part of the last two decades: awful lines (what little we heard of them), stupid CGI stunts (HALO suits? Whaaa?) and a bunch of jackasses running around a big city wrecking stuff. Yeah, it has all the elements of a movie classic. :guffaw:

As for Transformers, I really hope you're not holding that up as an example of a good movie made from a toy tie-in, because unless you're secretly Michael Bay and just shameless self-promoting, that's not gonna fly. ;)

Maybe if this fails, they'll give it to JJ Abrams.

HAWK: Bruce Greenwood
DUKE: Chris Pine
COBRA COMMANDER: Karl Urban
DESTRO: Eric Bana
ZARTAN: Zachary Quinto
STORM SHADOW: John Cho
SCARLETT: Rachel Nichols :p
LADY JAYE: Zoe Saldana
GUNG HO: Simon Pegg
FLINT: Chris Hemsworth
BARONESS: Jennifer Morrison
JINX: Winona Ryder
SNAKE EYES: Anton Yelchin

Yes, because there are so many fantastic, well-made movies that were made from a toy tie-in.

That aside, I did like Transformers, mostly because I am not a stuck-up fanboy over the original cartoon.

That aside, Michael Bay must has cloned himself into the general population as the people who liked Transformers greatly outnumber the ones who hated it.

In any event, I was citing Transformers as that was a movie based on a toy-line and it was wildly successful. If anything, making a GI Joe movie is digging into a newly opened barrel.

What no cobra-la? They've raped my childhood.

Cobra-la forever!

Still, looks to be a sucktacular joe-in-name-only sort of movie. They had some great source material-- especially if they went with the comic-- but they've just took something from the bottom of the reject pile, and painter's tape Joe names over it.

The trailer fails because there isn't a long, 30-second shot of Rachel Nichols in that skin-tight black leather suit. Dammit.

Ya know, when I had GI Joes, they were 12" tall and meant to be replicas of actual soldiers. I never understood the itty bitty 3" village-people-looking versions. How were they "real" American heroes?
