Gi.I.Joe trailer: fails to fail

Dammit, people, stop talking and post pictures of Rachel nichols!
Is this better? :D

I've been away from the boards for a bit but just had to pop in and comment on this.

This film essentially takes the names of characters from the GIJoe: A Real American Hero and shoves them into a convoluted plot full of nanites, over-the-top military tech, and Wayans humor. It has precious little to do with the characters that Larry Hama fleshed out back in 1982. Before Larry was brought on board the script was a complete and utter mess and he suggested a few small changes but I don't think even those can save this turkey.

Snake Eyes was originally a French orphan who had the last lines of the film. General Hawk was originally an English military officer and Scarlett has been reduced to the role of a female Spock who can't help but fall for the wise-crackin' Wayans.

Oh yeah, what kind of a ground-pounder has the nick-name/call sign of Ripcord? How many gropos are self-taught jet pilots in their spare time?

Do not even get me started on what they did to Cobra Commander. Whether you preferred his Sunbow animation persona or his Marvel Comics characterization you're going to be sorely disappointed.

This movie takes everything that I used to love about G.I. Joe and removes it-- and in it's place leaves a typical Stephen Sommers effects-fest devoid of substance.

I've been a Joe fan for a long time and welcome a nice new take on the characters-- when its done well. This film is just "done" in my opinion.

 that trailer was horrible! Transformers might have competition for worst flick ever made

Not to be a total tool, but rebooted continuity and characters that bear no resemblance to their cartoon or comic book namesakes of twenty years previous don't bother me at all. What bothers me is that this movie looks like shit.

I think you're both saying the same thing differently. To me the movie inexplicibly looks like shit because they changed the fundamentals from the original source which had a wealth of cool ideas and characters to draw from and to create a great canvas for a film.

For people who say it looks like dumb summer action, even good summer action is smartly scripted. The original cartoon/comic was also pretty savvy in its characters. They were a distinct cast of characters who brought different things to an army setting.

Plus they had cool vehicles that should have translated to film. HISS tanks and hovercrafts and one-man helicopters and half-tracks with snow skids and missile racks. So to see these power suits in all the ads and then to see the button of the trailer a Hummer with missiles in the door, it's like someone in charge didn't think to use army weapons in a movie about an army force.

The final thing that shows a sign of suck is word that Cobra Commander is barely in the film. Despite the fact that they totally fucked up his iconic look, someone said upthread that he's a memorable villain. It's the same problem Transformers (1) did bringing out Megatron in the final act, or Spidey-3 bringing out Venom too late. It's like the filmmakers get so up in their fanboy asses about great villains that they want to use them sparingly. But the greatest villains need screentime. Vader in "Empire." Joker in "Dark Knight." Khan in TWOK.

All that is my problem. I don't need it to be exactly like the cartoon, but the cartoon had some great things to use as a starting point for a fun film, and this all looks like ass.
