Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

Didn't he retire from acting?

Wow, I didn't realize that he did retire. I thought maybe he had done something more recent, but his last few have been voice roles, and that last one was in 2006.

It's a testament to how prolific he was, in that his roles still live on in our hearts as if he never left them.

Actually I think this came up some months ago when the idea of a 'Spaceballs 2' was being thrown around and it turns out that Moranis hasn't officially retired. I think he said something to the effect of he's never been retired and would absolutely come sign on if the right project came his way. Also intimated that Mel Brooks doing 'Spaceballs '2 may be such a project.

Don't know if he'd bother with a cameo in the new 'Ghostbusters' or if they've even asked, but it would be a very cool surprise.

Sounds like it's time for Feig to close his laptop. Even if he has some people "hating" on him and his movie there's no way to come off looking good responding in kind.

I'm perfectly okay with this. It is time that "fans" not be the only voice out there.

I don't have a problem with it either. If people are that rude, then I can understand losing it.

Agreed. Quite frankly, he won't win with such people anyway. Before he signed on the original cast members, naysayers would have been talking about how the original crew wouldn't touch it with a 10 meter cattle prod. Now that Feig has signed on almost all of the original cast members, some of these same people are saying the movie is going to be so bad that he had to get the classic cast on board in order to bolster it.

The man's film is being ripped to shreds by these people without it ever having been seen. He loses nothing by telling them to fuck off. Who do they think they are? Special little snowflakes?

"Your movie sucks, Feig! It's going to be shit!"
"Go fuck yourselves if that's all you can do."
"*gasp* How can he be so mean to us, the fans?!"

I'm not worried about sparing their feelings but it makes him look sad to be dragged down to their level.

Agreed. It's rather pointless to take on people who have the anonymity of the internet. He shouldn't lower himself to their level. Making a good movie should be his comeback.

It doesn't matter. He could make a movie with a 95% Tomato rating, a 90 Metacritic rating, and rake in $2 billion, and those same people would still consider the film a failure. For some people there simply is nothing that will please them short of traveling back through time and forcing them to make a third film. I'm fine with Paul Feig telling them to go fuck themselves. They need a dose of the way the real world works if all they can do is bitch about a movie they haven't seen yet.

The best revenge is to be dressed in a tux at the premiere of the movie with a big smile and his arms around his leading ladies. Why should he give a shit about a bunch of internet clowns?

Why does anyone? Because the biggest clowns also have the loudest voices.

By responding to them he is giving them a bigger voice.
If he tells them to go fuck themselves do you think they are going to switch off the computer and cry? No. They'll continue to say the same thing except this time they have the spotlight on them.

When someone has their twitter avatar set to a logo from the new film with a crossout and spends any time at all hurling insults at the creators it's FAR past time for that person to reevaluate their life choices.

I'm okay with creators being human and being every bit as passionate about the material as the fans. I think out-of-line fandom needs a solid "Fuck You!" from creators every now and then.

I couldn't imagine actually posting stuff like did on the director's Twitter page. It's one thing to complain about it on your own social media pages, but to actually post it on the page of someone involved in the movie just takes it to a whole other level.

Yeah it's very easy to sit back and say how unwise or unprofessional it is to react like that publicly, but very few know just what it's like to be even moderately notable on the internet, assuming you want to be able to interact in a meaningful way.

Back when I was active with the Trek Art stuff, I got a *very* tiny taste of notoriety and while it's certainly nice to get the compliments and support, it usually comes wrapped in all kinds of weirdness. At it's peak I think I used to get about 20 emails a day about my work, of which 15 ranged from mildly obtrusive to downright offensive. It was easy enough to ignore, but I can see how magnified a thousand fold it would be utterly infuriating. I can totally understand why some prominent people have chosen to withdraw from social media of late. After a certain point, it's just not worth the hassle.

Basically imagine this lot following you around everywhere you go 24/7. I think most people would get pissed off and snap a lot sooner than this. Hell, it often seems like a fair proportion of people on the net only need a single message they don't like to set them off on a rant.

Pretty much, and it doesn't help that a lot of the vocal opposition to this movie is coming from people who are pissed off at the simple fact that the starring cast members don't have testicles.
