Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

From the link...

Vulture also reports that Murray won’t be reprising his role as Peter Venkman, but rather is rumored to play someone trying to debunk the new bustin’ crew—a ghostbuster buster, if you will.

An equivalent to Walter Peck.

^Whatever the reality of the situation might be, I have to say that from the outside it looks very much like Murry is basically flipping off Aykroyd.

I don't know if I see it that way. I see both sides having merit, frankly. Murray didn't want to do GB2 and thought the original was as good as it gets, certainly something to be proud of and just leave it at that. Aykroyd, on the other hand, recognizes that GB3 can't really succeed without Murray, and Ghostbusters is his baby. With neither side willing to budge, of course there's that impasse; but with this reboot, Aykroyd is still providing some input, and is still getting paid for his baby thanks to that handy-dandy producer credit.

But I think as the years went by, Aykroyd became just a bit more fanatical about making GB3, whereas Murray occupied himself with other endeavors.

Since Murray doesn't need to worry about playing Venkman anymore, he's free to do whatever he wants. He made it clear that he doesn't hate the franchise itself (doing the video game, popping up at the Scream Awards in full costume, etc), but that he doesn't want to do Venkman, period.

I'm going to love seeing that in action.

Huh, I didn't even consider Murray's cameo in that light. While I'm not convinced he's flipping off Akyroyd, I can definitely see how one could view it that way.

I'm really confused by the idea that Murray doing a cameo in this movie is somehow a shot at Aykroyd.

Not doing a cameo if Aykroyd asked could mean he wouldn't care if the movie got a bad review and tanked.

Now with Feig and company he seems to think these people are good people and wants them to succeed.

He would hate for them to get a bad review. People would say

"No Murray. So this movie sucks"

Do you see how big his ego is?

Or maybe he hated all of the scripts that Stupnitsky / Eisenberg and Etan Cohen wrote and wanted no part of a nostalgia cash-in.

They’ve already called Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, so it only make sense to add Sigourney Weaver to the list. According to a source close to the production, the iconic actress who played Dana Barrett in the original two films, made a brief appearance on the set of the Ghostbusters reboot during the final week of shooting in New York City and will have a small part in the new movie.

Director Paul Feig confirmed the Weaver news in a tweet on Friday. “Gang, trying to keep surprises but this is about to leak, so I’ll tell you myself: the awesome Sigourney Weaver is going to be in our movie!” he wrote.

Didn't he retire from acting?
I'm thrilled to have Sigourney Weaver back. I just hope all of these cameos are too intrusive and distracting from the new characters.

Didn't he retire from acting?

He did, yes. He stepped back to raise his kids after his wife died, and he eventually realized he didn't miss acting all that much so he never really returned.

I'm fine without a Rick Moranis cameo.

I do hope they have something special to honor Harold Ramis. Maybe take a page from The Incredible Hulk and show a clip of another iconic role on a TV set as the aforementioned film did with Bill Bixby.

I really hope they do. Just because he died doesn't mean they can't find a way to work an appearance he, he did other movies so it wouldn't be to hard to find footage of him that isn't Ghostbusters.
