Geordi and his obessions.

I'm watching Aquiel and Geordi is once again obsessed with some women he has never met. What's his deal?

It just proves that, even in the 24th century, nobody's perfect and a brother still can't get a break.

Geordi is one of my favourite TNG characters. His bad luck with women is one of the many subtle elements that allows the viewer to relate better with characters in a future setting. Even 300 years from now, I'm pretty sure men are still going to have trouble with women! (and vice versa)

I don't see Geordi being obsessed--he was genuinely concerned. He wanted to figure out the mystery of what really went on aboard that station. "Uhnari's personal letters reveal her to be a spirited, romantic Halii woman who was abused by her father, is intensely homesick for the rest of her family and traditions, and has difficulty getting along with "egomaniac" Rocha." Plus, she's really attractive. It's no wonder Geordi felt impassioned to be involved with her.

I wouldnt consider him totally obsessed either. But he did borderline a few times. This episode with Ariel and the one with the Warp Engine Lady Leah something. The one where he created her in the holodeck. Both these episodes I get the feeling that Geordi is very close to stepping over that line. Both times he fell in love not with the real person but an image or holodeck image.

To be honest, I always felt bad for him. He was the only character who truly never had a successful romantic relationship with anyone who came along during the series, regardless of his continuous attempts. I thought they could have written him a little bit out of the "nice guy" box at the end, and they didn't.

^ But you're right, he was the quintessential "nice guy." And, unfortunately for him, the attractive girl rarely falls in love with him. She might like to entertain the interest for a while, but then she can't help but crave the edgy rebel guy. A guy can't be so nice want wanting to please a girl in every way she wants... he comes across as too much of a push-over. And that's Geordi. I think a lot of guys can relate to him.

However, we do see Geordi mature gradually over time. His second experience with Lea Brahms, for instance. He definitely passed a maturity milestone with that one. Eventually, he becomes more confident... he's not the vulnerable "nice guy to the max" by the time TNG comes to an end.

I don't think that dreaming about good looking members of the opposite/same sex is an obsession.

I dream about the good looking guys I work with all the time...and I'm married. I think dreaming about something you want is pretty normal.

I guess you could say they decided it would be nice to see Starfleet officers who are not all dashing and suave and always get the girl. Kind of a nice change I suppose.

Geordi should have been the on-board master of ass, Riker-style, and the writers dropped the ball on this big time. Burton knows it, and I think he more or less said so in one of the DVD's extras commentary... I would have loved to see Geordi pimp out. Let's say he's doing Robin Lefler and Sonya Gomez at the same time. Catfight in engineering. Rowr.
