Tom Paris turning into a lizard kinda makes sense in hindsight considering actor Richard Herd who played Owen Paris also played John - The Supreme Commander of the Earth fleet of the Visitors in the two V Miniseries that aired in the 80s. The Visitors in V were lizards.

....but if she's just a recurring character or guest star, she will change her last name, or at least hyphenate.

Regarding Jadzia Dax... she would have already changed her surname to 'Dax' as soon as she became the host for the Dax symbiote. Ezri did this when she went from Tigan to Dax.

Plus, she was married to a guy who had only onename... Worf.

But none of that is a surname per se and it wouldn't be used like one.

I think it could fit in nicely with technobabble. (though of course not in the meaning they give on that page).
