General Trek Questions and Observations

Does anyone know where to purchase admiral's braid?

If you mean the STIII - VI sleeve braid from the monster maroon uniforms, those were custom made for the movie uniforms so were never commercially available. Anovos recreated them and shipped one with their Rear Admiral monster maroon jackets but never sold them separately. You might find them at a costume/prop specialist but I can't say I've ever seen them.

The checkered band used in STII will be easier to replicate, it's just a black and yellow Battenburg pattern, the braid was actually leftover from the trim used on the BSG uniforms.

In case you're still interested, I did stumble across somewhere selling the Admiral's braid, http://www.xscapesprops.com/star trek props/Star_Trek_movie_era_uniforms.htm

Howdy, folks.

This thread is intended as a place to post any odd Trek-related questions you may have, or observations/insights you'd like to share, that may not have enough meat on their bones to support a separate thread. This can include would-be threads whose entire opening posts consist of a single sentence or question. Going forward, new threads of that nature may be merged into this one at the discretion of the moderators.

Note, however, that content posted in this thread should still be content that would be posted in GTD. If your question or observation is very series-specific, then you may want to consider your options in the appropriate series forum.

So...have at it!

Hello

I've oft wondered if the Federation's not using money contributed to Miles & Keiko having marital issues. Had it employed a fiscal economy, O'Brien could've just thrown money at his discontented wife to keep her quiet and happy on TNG & DS9 -- DS9, especially ...

"Money" problems didn't seem to be their issue. And I feel they do use "money" or credits - just not physical money like coins or cash, which is all they meant when they said they don't use "money" anymore. There are still some valuable and rare materials some use to transfer wealth, like gold pressed latinum, and while it can't be replicated, I wonder it that means it can't be transported, too.

Maybe someone can given an example of using transporters to move gold pressed latinum?

Obviously, no matter how the economy of the 24th century may work exactly, humans can obtain any material goods they want.

And this supports my hypothesis that, sooner or later, every TrekBBS thread turns into a "do they have money in the future" or "is Starfleet the military" discussion.

Yeah, holy crap! Don't think much of Keiko, do we?
I never cared for her, but I don't like the post that solving their issues could have been achieved by throwing money at her. Her issues had to do more with feeling useless professionally on the station. Money and gifts would not have helped that.

I decided not to bother making that explanation, since it really ought to be a given amongst us that wives generally aren't in it just for the money, right? Especially Trek protagonists.
