General Trek Questions and Observations

In Star Trek Into Darkness, when Spock does a mind meld with a dying Christopher Pike, I always thought it was rather cold and callous of Spock to do that to a dying (and suffering) man just to experience what he was feeling. But is it possible that one of the goals of said mind meld was to alleviate Pike's suffering so he didn't have to die in pain?
Or alone.

Yeah, he dies in 2259 in that timeline and from trauma sustained in an armed attack on Starfleet Headquarters. Hardly an improvement over his fate in the Prime Timeline.

Personal opinion... Pike's death in the Kelvinverse is a far better fate than ending up a total invalid in a chair where you can't even communicate in any way other than beeping 'yes' or 'no'.

It's like in JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN... I just don't see how anyone can be fine with someone in that kind of state.

Not sure ending up with the Talosians in an illusionary existence is much better, but it's better than the chair.

Now I am wondering if the SNW people can change Pike's fate but the fans, they would revolt

Pike's entire role in Into Darkness feels like little more than an extended cameo and his death only serves as a motivation for Kirk's arc. I'd have preferred if they'd just have had Pike "on assignment" or some equivalent rather to get him out of the film than have him be used in such a thankless manner.

DC TOS monthly 2 #61 Door in the Cage showed that SF Medical can now give Pike a functional body again, so Spock returns to Talos to offer Pike a new life back in SF - but he has built a home there over the last 20 years...

What is the fine line between "worldbuilding" (expanding info on a mentioned species, location, etc) and "memberberry"?
Writing "memberberry" is writing stories using plot elements and reusing past characters especially when directly referencing to the time we saw those characters, places, etc. You can do worldbuilding with new characters, places, etcs, without using anything from prior productions and publishments. ..

You can also reuse and expand on elements without it being just 'memberberries'.
