General thoughts on ENT?

Oh no! Not Malcolm! He was my favorite character. :eek:Having said that, it would make total sense had he died during the Xindi mission. Trip's death would have made sense also
No, they should have used the opportunity to get rid of dead wood. You know who I mean. ;)
And unlike in Twilight, we might have actually noticed when he died. :D

:guffaw:Yep! They actually could have killed him off during the battle at Azati Prime. If I recall , he narrowly missed getting crushed by something .

He always made me think of the book "The Little Engine That Could". On at least several occasions, when asked to do something, his response was "I don't know, but I can TRY"

He was fine to look at, but his character didn't add anything.

I'm assuming you mean Travis, right?

I recently watched the first season, and it stuck me how godawful and wooden Montgomery was. I mean, how the fuck was THIS the best they could do for this character?

The crazy thing is: The season prior to ENT's premiere, my favorite show was the WB's "Popular," where he had a fairly prominent reoccurring role that season, and I never put it together that A.T and Anthony were the same person until I did a Google search when I noticed Glee had a VERY striking resemblance to Popular. That is just how entirely bland he was. The character was more Harry Kim than Harry Kim , and for good reason.

Aside from Phlox, the Characters in Enterprise are terrible and bland. The writing is lazy, and I despise the way Vulcans are portrayed in it.

I guess Montgomery gave good audition?

I haven't watched much VOY, but I watched Timeless the other day (the one where Harry and Chakotay communicate back in time to prevent Voyager's destruction), and Harry was pretty good in that, because he was sort of regretful, bitter and driven. He wasn't so good at making the usual nice-guy character interesting.

I beg to differ. I think the way they portray the Vulcans is very interesting. You get to see different types of Vulcans - not always likeable, but that's what makes it interesting. Also ENT gives a lot of historical background to the relationship between humans and Vulcans. Like in any normal relationship it is up and down.

I totally agree. there was definitely liked the variance in Vulcams on Enterprise. I found them more likeable overall than the Vukcans in TOS. Actually, come to think of it, I believe Spock was the ONLY Vulcan I liked in TOS. (Sarek had to grow on me , through several appearances on two different series) .

I also liked how the Vulcans were portrayed, yet I often wonder how people who did not, thought they should be portrayed? I mean it would be 'illogical' for them to be exactly the same as TOS or TNG era Vulcan's as every living thing evolves over time it just the natural order of the universe.

Actually it's kind of funny that I feel that sometimes the Vulcan's felt more human than the human characters on the show.

There were some ideas for ENT presented by execs that were discussed elsewhere on this forum, and they were met by those posting with sharp criticism. One such idea was that there be a "Boy Band" on the show, every week to attract a larger female audience. At first, I must admit, it kind of sounds like they're pulling it out of nowhere. But having USO shows, kind of, on a regular basis might've really given the series it's own flavour. I'm not so sure I'd reject the idea, outright, I think I like it ...
A boy band? What a strange Idea!

That was their thinking, "upstairs." But I prefer the idea of USO shows allowing for a variety of acts to join in ... not just boy bands.

It just never made any sense logistically I mean the ship was travelling further away from home all the time yet still had time to pick up a new 'band of the week' from somewhere. The idea would have worked better on the other trek shows just not on this one, I could see it working on TGN since the Galaxy class has many luxury's and with lots of ships out there it's conceivable for it to happen, it certainlly would have worked on DS9 with it being a space station ie mostly stationery show, it even could have been done on voyager as a holodeck programme, or incorporated into that one that Paris used often.

But in terms of Enterprise itself there is no way it would really fit into the show.

I am glad they never did that in any of those shows. I find that space hippie episode from TOS annoying as hell and it's mostly because of all the singing.

Yes, but ... imagine, say STONE TEMPLE PILOTS playing "Big Empty," or something like that. It would surely get the head to bobbing ... the toes to tapping ...

I am glad too, it's not something I would have particularly wanted in the show, all I was trying to point out was in all of the trek shows Enterprise was the one where it would work the least.
