Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Ahah!

Open one in the TOS forum and then sit back and watch the fireworks.

Yeah, I mean realistically, Q&A has nothing to do with Star Trek: Discovery. Except for Amin, all the characters are from TOS, the ship is the Enterprise, and we don't see any reference to the Discovery, the Crossfield class, or any other character introduced on the show (Spock doesn't even allude to a sister).

If they were to actively begin making TOS Short Treks, this is the kind of stuff I'd expect. Bryan Fuller was credited as creator (along with Gene Roddenberry of course), but I have no idea why, as I'm struggling to see a single aspect in the short he created. Plenty of post-Fuller Discovery designs on display, but again, he didn't create those.

Short Treks has been removed from the Discovery section on All Access (not sure of other services). It is now a related show... its own Star Trek series outright. Future Shorts will move around the timeline and various series. We might get some shorts that don't fit anywhere at all.

Will the miscellaneous ones all go in Discovery? Or GTD? Or maybe, just maybe, a dedicated Short Trek forum someday? Fat chance on that last one.

There really should be a Short Treks forum too as IMO it's a separate show. It's an anthology show made up of 15 minute long episodes. But yeah, for some reason it's difficult to create new forums..
I'm assuming that it's because they have to find volunteer bodies to Moderate any new forum they create.

I understand that issue, but there are a lot of regular members on this forum who have been here for a long time. Why not make more people moderators rather than pick from the ones they already have? Of course, they could already be doing this. I'm just spitballing.

Being a Mod is a real PITA, they may not have all that many folks volunteering.

I understand that, but where is the "job posting" to become a moderator? I don't see anywhere to volunteer unless it's only open to certain ranks and above.
I'm pretty sure it's only by special invitation from T'Bonz. (T'Booooo)

I suppose one could attempt to contact her by PM to inquire.

This new Trekmovie article has some interesting Discovery tidbits: https://trekmovie.com/2019/10/06/st...it-to-trill-and-more-spore-drive-in-season-3/

- 13 or more episodes

- there are a couple new writers this season including Anne Cofell Saunders (known for RDM’s Battlestar Galactica) and Kalinda Vasquez (from Once Upon A Time, Runaways, and Prison Break)

- Heather Kadin, when mentioning Erika and Boey, says they are going on to the Section 32 show. So yes, this show is obviously still happening.

I'm more excited about this season than I thought I would ever be about DSC. I think the jump forward is going to do the show, and the franchise, wonders.

Don't screw this up, guys!

Because the jumping around in the timeline anthology thing was originally his idea for DSC?

Since the Short Treks can take place in any time period maybe they belong under General Trek?

I've always felt that the time period separation was problematic. Discovery appears to be a show that spans two great time periods (23rd and 32nd century). The next two shows slot nicely into the 24th century period, but it's a bit uneven. I've felt a better separation would be Current Shows and Ended Shows, especially since (with Short Treks) the number would soon be 4 and 5. Add in Starfleet Academy, and you have 5 and 5.

General Trek Discussion could potentially be expanded to have a sub forum for miniseries and TV movies (if they are ever produced, as has been proposed by Kurtzman), and maybe the Short Treks would be a better fit there. Small forums under the supervision of the GTD Mod.

Hey folks. Figured I'd drop a mention here that TrekCore interviewed Kurtzman/Kadin/Paradise at PaleyFest this past weekend and Kurtzman reiterated the 13-episode plan for Discovery. He was asked point-blank if that might change in the same way that it did for the first two seasons and said no.

This may be worth bringing up since TrekMovie (a site I love, mind you!) recently misinterpreted something to signal that season 3 is now a potentially "13+" deal.

i was just thinking about this when i went to watch Q&A and realized the shorts aren't slotted under discovery on CBSAA, they're on their own series page. star trek: short treks is its own show, it deserves its own forum.

Discoprise shorts are arguably an extension of Discovery.

The Picard prequel should be discussed in the Picard forum...when it arrives.

We still don't really know regarding the animated shorts, but based upon the title one may be Discovery related.
