Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Considering that the Harry Mudd Short Trek needs to be tied in, has anyone made the suggestion before that they might need his source for the time crystal thing from season one to use against Control?

Maybe its one of Mudd's surviving androids who's the actual AI from the future that sent back the squid, explaining why it's tentacle was only a bit 'snippy' with Tyler instead of actually trying to kill him.

Got the Blu-ray set today. Looks like CBS made some effort with the packaging and disc art in comparisons to their Blu-ray releases for TOS, TNG and Enterprise.
I don't think i've ever seen disc art on anything from CBS or Paramount. It shocked me to see it on the Discovery discs.

Who said that all of the short treks are going to tie into the main story? I think that they only gave Harry a short trek because they weren't planning on using him in the second season.

Was there a reason they changed the aspect ratio between seasons one and two?

The old two episode per disc and clamshell case DVD’s had disc art.

I have to say while I'm enjoying the way the second season has been going lately, I'm really, really having a hard time seeing where they go next season with Michael if they plan to retain SMG as the lead, and not just one part of an ensemble cast.

Basically this season they've eliminated many of the first season's issues with the character. She isn't always plot critical, her point of view isn't always shown as being the correct one, etc. But as a result, often the only way she remains relevant on a week-to-week basis is due to her connection to Spock. She's still the character with the most lines overall I think, but she's not always "the hero."

So let's say next season Spock goes off on his merry way. Let's also say that they avoid making Burnham the captain once Pike heads back to Enterprise. How do they frame the third season in such a way as to make SMG the lead actor, if the plot arc of the season is not personally relevant to her, and she isn't in a command position where she is the one calling the shots?

I don't think all the Short Treks need to tie in. There's no way "Runaway" will tie in. It's a self-contained story that has nothing to do with anything and I'm not even sure where it would fit. Same with "The Escape Artist". There's so much going on this season, and so many moving parts, that I think adding Mudd to the mix would be overkill.

The time crystal is a good way to work him in, though. But how many of them did he have? I suppose he could have some extras, but... ehhh. I don't feel strongly one way or the other, but I don't think they need to tie every short into the season.

This is a thing that seems minor but makes a difference to me. I'm glad the Discovery bridge is dark-brown instead of gray or silver. We had three series in a row where the bridge of the ship was gray-scale: the Defiant, Voyager, and the NX-01. Not to mention the Shenzhou. The brown on Discovery's bridge not only fits the exterior but, even though it's dark, it also still gives the inside a warmer look.

I got the impression they will all tie in somehow, maybe Disco needs to visit the dilithium planet for new crystals.

We have a decent enough internet connection, but I have the rest of Trek on Blu-ray or 4K, so I figured I'd pick up Discovery season one when the price was right.

It would have looked wrong to have season two and not season one on my shelf.

A few weeks ago I asked you to return your Trekkie nerd card because you didn't like a couple of classic Trek episodes. But seeing that despite not being a Discovery fan you subscribe to CBS AA and bought the Discovey Blu-rays, you have definitely earned that card. You are a far better Trekkie than I am. :techman:

They went from 2:1 ratio in season one to the Cinemascope ratio (2.4:1) starting with Short Treks to make it look more cinematic.

The unfortunate fact is that I'm a sucker for Trek, even when I'm grumping at it. Usually, it isn't "if" but "when" I come around to whatever is on the air at the particular time. Though I did drop out on DS9 and Voyager during their first runs. Eventually finishing them up years later.

I do have concerns going forward with CBS' plans to dump a bunch of Trek out there. I burned out once from oversaturation.

Obviously, you're a Star Trek Junkie and you need someone to intervene on occasion to break your habit.
Apparently, going 'cold turkey' was the only way the last time.

Personally, I was never able to kick the habit and fell back on my 'stash' of Trek DVD's I was continually acquiring from my secret dealer. (Amazon)
