Spoilers Game of Thrones: The Final Season

11am Monday in Australia. I wonder how many people took a sick day to see it.

Holy fuck, that was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen, especially on this show. I think I'm going to have nightmares now.

A lot of story set-ups and very little action, but that's not surprise for a premiere episode. The definite highlights of the episode were all of the long-awaited reunions. Sansa and Tyrion ("I use to think you were the smartest person in the world" OUCH!). Jon and Bran. Jon and Arya. Arya and the Hound. Arya and Gendry (sooo much flirting!). Jon and Sam (oops, the cat is out of the bag now!). Jaime and Winterfell. And of course, Jaime and Bran (one hell of a "Oh, fuck" moment!).

Considering how few people are left down in King's Landing, I'm surprised how much the episode squeezed out of the setting, but I don't see how that can last, especially now with Yara rescued and Bronn on his special mission. What are we going to see for the next couple of episodes? Cersei brooding and fucking Euron?

The dragonflight sequence was a lot of fun ("You've ruined horses for me!") but the CGI is still a little dodgy (especially the waterfall scene). Not that I don't mind. I'm a sucker for dragons and they still look fantastic.

I love the new title sequence! A great reflection of the changed world now that winter has arrived, with special emphasis on Winterfell and King's Landing. Plus, we now get to see the interiors!

I also loved how the opening scene emulated the first episode of the series with King Robert's arrival at Winterfell.

Pretty good episode. Lot of pieces being put into place, but there was some good character moments that mostly landed. A lot of reunions, but John can chalk up finally knowing the truth. Since this thread isn’t tagged as ‘spoilers’, I’ll leave it at that.
Grade: 8/10

Definitely!

And they did a pretty good job with the set up so far. Wish I could see the upcoming eps, but it'll be quite the wait as I'm not subscribed to HBO.

Like the new opener with only KL and Winterfell. Amazing how after everything everyone alive is pretty much in the same place now.

Was surprised Lady Mormont didn’t react to Jora.

New bar for “Most awkward sex ever”. With her dragon staring at you.

The Stark girls don't care for the dragon queen and Jamie is in town. What a mix for next week. LOL

Yeah, I was disappointed we didn't get to see that. I guess there wasn't any room with all reunions they had to get to. Maybe we'll get something next episode.

Party good times!

I was glad that Gendry did the lady scene. That means they both remember a conversation from about 6 years before.

I got 5 points in the contest I am part of for selecting Ned Umber to die in this episode, and I think I get another 5 points for having him as a wight. I also choose Alys Karstark to die in this episode but I was wrong.

Good start to the season with some surprises and twists that I didn't see coming. A few observations:
- Sam being the one to tell Jon the truth about who he is is not how I expected the reveal to go; I expected Bran to be involved and for it to happen in a formal setting, so to have it happen how and where it did was surprising

- Dany just telling Jon to mount Rhaegal and the two of them flying off together was an interesting way to handle something that the entire series has been building towards, but it makes sense in a way given what we know about who Jon is

- Emotions are a crazy thing... as evidenced by Sam's reaction when Dany confessed to executing his father and brother

- Sansa turning her disdain on Tyrion for being willing to trust Cersei's word didn't feel "earned" and came across as a step backwards in her character development for me

- Bronn is greedy, but not to the point where he'd turn his back on the only two friends he's ever really had, so the scene between him and Qyburn didn't really work and felt out-of-character

- What was the point of Arya's scene with The Hound and Gendry other than to add more character reunions to the episode?I

I forgot to mention this. My heart went out to Sam during that scene. The poor bastard fled Oldtown before the Archmaester got the chance to break the news to him and he found out in the worse way possible: Gawking at Daenerys because of who she is and how she's thanking him for what he did for Jorah and then BAM! Out of nowhere, Daenerys reveals the truth when he reveals his name. Thanks a lot, Jorah! You could've warned her who she was speaking to!

I think that the Arya, Gendry, and The Hound seen showed how much Arya still cares about Gendry as he is the best friend she has ever had. I did wonder why he did not ask her how did she get Needle back as he was with her when it was taken from her.
