Spoilers Game of Thrones Season 6 - Speculation and Spoilers

I know it's about four or five months out before the next season gets rolling, but I'm really getting excited about what might be happening this coming year.

Non-book readers here on the BBS (John P - looking at you bro! ;)) will rejoice that, aside from the (IMO) somewhat anemic Ironborne arc, all this will be new to everyone, as the next book (Winds of Winter) hasn't been released yet. I'm particularly looking forward to being surprised as to what happens next.

The biggest question that really shouldn't even be a spoiler or surprise at this point is, what is the fate of Jon Snow? I'm still putting it in spoiler code here for those who have been either in deep freeze or doing hard time for the past several years. :D
For months, we've seen photos of Kit Harrington hanging out at local pubs with the rest of the known-filming cast. He's been seen in costume wearing what appears to be potentially Stark clothing and colors (although we're unsure if it's a flashback or not). Melisandre returned to Castle Black just in time for the finale before Jon's assassination by the Night's Watch so that she can be conveniently on hand to resurrect him with R'hllor's Red Power. Will Jon be Azor Ahai reborn? A fair bet says the answer will be "yes".
Last season, in the crypts of Winterfell, we saw a glimpse of what came before in the actions made by certain players during Robert's Rebellion in the form of a conversation between Littlefinger and Sansa.
There is an implication of the long-held assumption that Lyanna Stark, Ned's sister, was not "kidnapped" by Rhaegar Targaryen as Robert Baratheon assumed (being the primary cause for his "Rebellion"), but taken secretly as a wife, and producing Jon Snow as their true heir. Casting calls seem to indicate flashbacks containing potential young versions of Ned and Lyanna Stark and Robert Baratheon. I think we're finally going to see much of what happened that caused all the rest of what we've already seen come to pass. About bloody time! Way may even see Sean Bean return to reprise his role for the older Ned.
What are the White Walkers and what are their goals?
This one is more mysterious and a bit of a noodle-scratcher. Jon's confrontation with one of the "kings" of the Walkers shows more than just a blind and unintelligent zombie leader, but one of cunning, potentially high intellect and maybe even a smidge of an almost Tump-like bravado and ego when he stared down Jon during the big escape from Hard Home. It felt like he was wordlessly challenging Jon, with a distinctly "whatchya gonna do about it, gangsta?" air about him. What are their goals? Are they out for the complete domination and/or destruction of all humankind (plus Children of the Forest and Giants)?

What did they need with Craster's children, or are the "kings" of the Walkers those same man-children after some kind of magically-accelerated growth has occurred?

To get a bit meta, here, this is GRRM's world - a world where its author enjoys taking Tolkien-like fantasy tropes and knock them on their ass. Will we realize at some point that the "good guys" all along were, in fact, the Walkers and that maybe the Children of the Forest were secretly planning the downfall of humanity for destroying the continent of Westeros that they once possessed for themselves? Are the Walkers merely cog of a bigger machine, with the Children of the Forest as their true masters, and with the Three Eyed Crow pulling all the strings?

Anyone who's invested any time in this world will know that stranger things have happened, nothing is sacred and literally anything is possible.
Lots of other questions are out there in addition to these, but those are the ones that I think orbit around one of the major story arcs.

And Deanerys? Eh...she needs to stop fiddling about in the wastelands north of Meereen and get on with her conquest of Westeros. She's been delayed a bit too long, IMO, and her current story is kind of boring me. I'm glad that Tyrion got to her sooner than I would have thought, but now that they're separated again, I'm not expecting much there for a while, sadly.

Anyone heard news on the release of the new book? It's been dead silent on many fronts, with very little coming out of GRRM's mouth lately.

Looks like GRRM has just publicly stated that Winds of Winter will not be ready before the new season starts. Not that it's any kind of a surprise. Was kind of hoping, though... :(

Please be better than season 5. That's all I ask.

Interesting! This trailer has a lot packed into it.

I find the most compelling thing to be the "Standing Bran". I suspect that, now that he's plugged into the Three Eyed Crowe's TreeNet, he'll be checking out the places in Westeros with the Heart Trees. past and present. His standing visage may be nothing more than an avatar, for lack of a better word, as he lurks about the continent, appearing next to, or in place of, the tree. It would appear that one of his journeys leads him face to face with the Ice King. The question is, can the I.K. see him for what he is, or is Bran just an invisible observer?

Added a new "Spoilers" red tag to the title to hopefully get some conversation going, now that we're getting close to the April 24 air date.

One last trailer!

I've been rewatching the series from the start starting about a month ago. Can't wait for the premiere!

In addition to the second trailer, HBO has also released 3 clips from Season 6. They have them up over at Watchers on The Wall's website. Pretty good stuff. They also have a frame-by-frame breakdown of the second trailer. Potential spoilers and a ton of speculation...

Q2

Very cool! Thank you for posting that. Some of those scenes went by so fast I missed a bunch of them.

I had not heard the theory that Jon Snow and Meera Reed may be siblings until I went to that site, although it seems to come out of left field and I honestly couldn't envision why such a relationship would be integral to any plot. The actress who plays Meera, Ellie Kendrick, herself correctly points out that, "In the books, our characters are described quite differently." I usually enjoy trying to draw lines between points that may or may not be there, but that one seems exceptionally, far-fetched.

I really hope that Tyrion's encounter as presented in the 2nd trailor is a matter of clever editing and not foreshadowing of what is to become of the franchise's arguably most popular character.

Interesting site, that Watchers on the Wall. Just read a very interesting article where one of the contributors suggested that maybe Daenerys is Azor Ahai reborn and not Jon Snow, as most people currently believe after Stannis' loss at Winterfell. He makes some good arguments and has me thinking about it. For those who don't recall who Azor Ahai is, from the Wiki of Ice and Fire:
Darkness lay over the world and a hero, Azor Ahai, was chosen to fight against it. To fight the darkness, Azor Ahai needed to forge a hero's sword.[3] He labored for thirty days and thirty nights until it was done. However, when he went to temper it in water, the sword broke. He was not one to give up easily, so he started over.

The second time he took fifty days and fifty nights to make the sword, even better than the first. To temper it this time, he captured a lion and drove the sword into its heart, but once more the steel shattered.[3]

The third time, with a heavy heart, for he knew beforehand what he must do to finish the blade, he worked for a hundred days and nights until it was finished. This time, he called for his wife, Nissa Nissa, and asked her to bare her breast. He drove his sword into her living heart, her soul combining with the steel of the sword, creating Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes.[3]

Although he had Lightbringer, Azor Ahai did not fight alone.[5] The Jade Compendium mentions that when the hero thrust the blade through a monster, the creature burst into flame.[6]

It is unknown if Azor Ahai is connected with the legend of the last hero, who lived during the Long Night and helped to defeat the Others.

The title of the first episode is "Red Woman". I think that may mean that certain events will go as predicted by many.

Very likely, yes. It also may be in reference to the introduction of a new character, Kinvara, another Red Priestess from Volantis, played by Ania Buckstein, while visiting Tyrion and Varys in Meereen. But, as you say, it probably has most to do with Melissandre and what she plans to do at the Wall.

I am SO stoked for season 6 after these trailers, especially the newest one.

Some thoughts:

Jon Snow has to be resurrected! From the way the trailer is cut we see Night's Watch advancing on the room where Snow is laying and he is defended by Davos. Why? Isn't it custom (and prudent) to behead a dead person in these parts of Westeros to prevent him from coming back as a Wight? Why defend a useless dead body if they didn't have plans for him?

Is it just perspective or did Drogon grew up to become a massive dragon? And his brothers sure seemed to have gotten bigger too.

Cersei vs The Sparrow.. let the fight begin!

There's so much i'm looking forward and it sure looks to be one hell of a season.. the only question is if they really stick to their guns and they really have killed off Jon Snow (and George is not shy to kill off fan favorites) or if he'll be the first major character to actually cheat death.. would make for a bit of change for once and could open a ton of new story possibilities if Jon is released from his oath due to him been dead.

The only small drawback is that book readers will be spoiled on some major story developments for once which is a shame because as well made as GoT is i always preferr the worded version including my own mental pictures. However the book will be more in depth and surely have material that won't appear in the show so there's at least that.

I would love to see what FrankenMountain can do when the chain comes off. I'm thinking somewhere between a WWE fighter and an M1A4 Abrams main battle tank. :D

I dunno. I have a feeling that things are going to go as expected regarding Rob Snow, but not as expected. For example, I think it's going to be the pyre they inevitably put him on that revives him, ala the symbolic way Dany was reborn. And when he goes to retrieve his sword, it too will be flaming, just as the prophecy states (and in exactly the way Melisandre described when she retold it in a previous episode). As opposed to a magical sword that's always flaming, D&D style.

Melisandre herself won't have much of anything to do with it, but upon witnessing it she'll realize she made a mistake in thinking Stannis was who she was destined to side with.
