Game Of Thrones Season 6 Discussion (Spoilers)

Why not? Apparently eight Brandon Starks are mentioned in the books so it is a stretch. Maybe he just wargs into his distant ancestor and makes him build the Wall and the original Winterfell. Perhaps I just like predestination paradoxes too much.

Whenever someone says "current hero travels back in time a thousand years to become that old hero we heard legends about", I always think of Valen. Is there another more notable example of that?

There is lots of common in B5 and GoT

1. Brandon and connection to tree/past = Draal and great machine. Also old guardian was calling Draal because he was dying just like raven was calling Brandon
2. The Others and Shadows
3. The one and Azor Ahai
4. Rangers from B5 and Nights Watch (oath etc..)
5 Zathras (several) and Children in GoT

The reason given is that they want to wait for gloomy weather to reflect the fact that winter has arrived. In which case, I'm extremely puzzled as to how they could spend 6 years in Northern Ireland and not realise that even our bloody summers are usually gloomy!

My bet would be the old bear Mormont with possibly Maester Luwin as my fallback.

So I was looking around about the delay in GOT filming so that they can get more wintery scenes next season..

And apparently even Dubrovnik, Croatia (King's Landing) can get some snow cover. And temperatures below 10 degrees celcius during the winter months.

Just watched the final two episodes last night.

It might have been addressed earlier in this thread, but does anyone know how Varys got to Dorne and back so fast. Is the final scene just that far in the future after the Dorne conversation or what? On a related note, Arya also seems to have gotten across the ocean pretty quickly.

It wasn't really that fast, a significant amount of time had past. They repainted all the sails with the Targarrian symbol. That takes a lot of time and they showed them just finishing up. So a lot of people just ignored the time jump that was shown.

Don't get why people are having such a problem with that nit. Do you WANT to show 8 episodes of people looking over the side of boats? He went to Dorne, made an alliance, got some ships, went east again. Met up with the team, got on the boats, now heading west. Not like they were showing the clock from 24 or anything, they just skipped forward over the boring bits. Travel between anywhere in this series is supposed to take weeks, but we just want to see the parts where things happen. The one time GRRM tried the travelogue thing, it was a brutally slow bit, and pretty well panned by the readers.

They could have cut it better, but pretty obvious what was happening. They just kept the Essos stuff together, otherwise it would have killed other momentum (and some surprises). Assume the meeting in Dorne was an episode earlier, and you're all good.
