Game Of Thrones Season 6 Discussion (Spoilers)

I don't think Ramsay is strong enough a villain for it to be worth drawing out his reign of terror any longer. But Littlefinger's carefully timed entry to make sure both armies took heavy losses sets him up for a huge power move. He probably hoped Jon would die before he got there so it'd be Sansa's unchallenged authority with his whispers in her ear.

That battle scene may have captured the abject chaos of war better than any battle scene I've ever seen.

Another scene I liked was when Tyrion told the three Masters one had to be sacrificed, then he spared only the one they picked.

I don't know what the other two were thinking there. Announcing in the middle of class warfare, 'Kill him, he's is the lowborn one!'

Not sure the timing was completely intentional, but... yes. I don't get why everyone is calling this a total win for the "good guys". Sure, it's great to be rid of psycho Ramsey and the the Bolton reign in the north, and it certainly was cathartic... But the Starks only hold Winterfell now at the grace of Littlefinger and the army of the Vale. In a sense they now own the north.

I read an article that said they spent $10 million on this episode, and it took 25 days of filming. It showed, it was spectacular.

I think the shortened 7th and 8th season will result more episodes like this, with more money to spend per episode and more time to film it. And more Dragons and Whitewalkers.

And maybe they should let Miguel Sapochnick direct every episode from now on.

Honestly looking at the hardening of Sansa and her talk with Jon about needing to not do what Ramsay expected I almost wonder if she had input with Littlefinger that caused the timing of the attack.

If the Vale joins early Ramsay has a chance to alter tactics and possibly withdraw with some forces. Jon and his forces were sacrificed, but it meant annihilating Ramsay's strength.

I was expecting Littlefinger to show up. As the circumstances got worse and worse for the Stark army, I was going "Anytime now, Littlefinger".

There's a joke in there from Animal House somewhere, but it's hard to find the right words.

I was expecting Lord Umber to surivive but too bad he died at the hands of Tormund. I kinda liked him. He was rude to both Ramsay and Lord Karstark and he only joined them because he needed help in removing wildlings from his lands.

Lord Karstark died right ? I did not see him during and after the battle. I will not miss him.

The battle was really well done. It showed the stress and confusion soldiers go through during battles.

Wun Wun needed a large trunk to just swing it around . He could have easily broken the Bolton shields and pikes formation with it.

Oh, no, it's even more impressive than that. The average episode of Game of Thrones costs $10 million. We can only speculate on what this episode cost.

I have a super dumb question. Is Castle Black and Winterfell the same real world set? Because they returned to Winterfell but it looked like Castle Black. I never paid attention before...

They're different sets close to each other in Belfast.

^Castle Black is filmed at Magheramorne quarry, in county Antrim north of Belfast, while Winterfell often uses Castle Ward, which would be to the south east of Belfast in county Down. I assume that they also do some studio shooting for each.

Liked the episode. Especially the moment when Jon finally saw the truth about Ramsay's depravity and cruelty (sad that it had to happen over Rickon's body, I guess). But then again, Jon was removed from all the intrigues going on around Westeros, he had to battle the more straight-forward Wildlings and White Walkers, so it's understandable that he's remained a bit naive up till now.

What's more disturbing to me is Sansa's smile - I'd have taken her watching the hounds eviscerate Ramsay, but I definitely could have done without that creepy smile which she also displayed earlier in the battle when she watched with Littlefinger, BTW. But why didn't she tell Jon about the army in her backpocket? What did she have to promise Littlefinger?

And the same thought about women ruling Westeros in the end ocurred to me as well during that quite abrupt meeting of Dany's with the Greyjoys. I'm just waiting for a "no *man* can kill me" moment with the King of the White Walkers... perhaps it will be Arya with Sting instead to off him (much as with the riders of Rohan moment here, as someone so aptly wrote - a comment which had me rotfl-ing BTW).

Now, please just get rid of King's Landing in a display of motherly self-righteous insanity in the final episode of this season. After all, Tyrion so nicely hinted at that.

 I was another one yelling "Serpentine, Shelly, serpentine!!"

BRILLIANT imagery of both battles. And it's about time we got to see the dragons cut loose in combat - air support!!!

But... couldn't Sansa have gotten Littlefinger's troops there a little - a LOT earlier?!

Was that poor giant the only one? last of his kind? well, crap! :(

Possibly the last living one for all we know. I won't be surprised if we see the White Walkers deploy some giant wights in the future.

I'm pretty sure there were more giants with the Wildlings in the books (as well as woolly mammoths), but the show couldn't afford to show more.
