Game Of Thrones Season 5 TV Only Discussion (Spoilers)

I'd love to see GoT do what The Walking Dead did in its second half of Season 4- have a series of episodes only focusing on certain characters.

So you could have a whole episode just of the Kings Landing plot, another on Dany and co, another on Winterfell, one on the Wall, etc etc. Or at least limit them to only two plots per episode. I love the show, but sometimes it feels like you can never really "get into" a plotline in a normal episode of the week.

Whew, glad to see Bronn got cured! That would've been a shitty way for him to go.

I'm surprised the Jorah/Tyrion/Dany meet-up happened already here. Wasn't expecting that to occur til Episode 9.

The chapter in the books written from Cersei's viewpoint when she was imprisoned is my favorite part in the whole series. I hope we get something of that.

I loved this ep, the meanderings seem to all be building up. I loved that shot of Brienne staring at Winterfell, in the snow. And Jaime looking gutted that his daughter declared he did not know her

7 episodes in I think season 5 is my least favourite so far, everything feels so slow. The only storylines that keep my interest are Dany's, whatever is happening north of the wall and perhaps Arya's but when was the last time we've seen her... I never thought it would happen but I actually sigh and roll my eyes whenever they cut to Kings Landing, I'm just tired of Cersei at this point.

Best part of this episode was Tyrene's flashdance and Bronn's singing. I know GoT is big on TNA, but the actress who plays Tyrene I found exceptionally beautiful. Which is odd for me. As I am one of the few people I know, who doesn't think Natalie Dorner is drop dead gorgeous.

That Sand Snake actress sure has a perfect body, any man (and a few women) will understand Bronn

Well.. 7 episodes in and the story just keeps plodding along without much really happening.

People travel along, there's much talking and anxiety, and some characters have gotten so little screen time that there barely was any progress.

I don't know how many seasons there will be but if Arya is to become a Faceless Man (Woman?) it'll need at least 10 seasons more by this pace or they pull a Skywalker and have her become an Asassin in half a season.

Same applies for Stannis.. i'm getting sick of him. For an entire season we are waiting for him to finally take Winterfel and he's just lurking around with his Fire bitch and feeling all royal yet rarely accomplishes anything.

So much was promised of Dorne and that's probably the biggest disappointment, it couldn't have been more scenes than i have fingers on my hand yet everyone expected Dorne to become a vital player.. the same was expected of the Sand Snakes which also fell very flat for now.

About the only thing halfway interesting is Dany and Tyrion and they finally met, two of my favorite characters and i'm curious to see what will come of this encounter.

As it stands season 5, while strictly speaking well developed, may be the weakest yet. If it takes you more than half a season to take a character to someone else and a near entire season for an attack wating to happen for distances that have been covered in a single episode or two before then something may be wrong.

Maybe 10 episodes really are too few for such a complex show with such a broad cast and so many places. As it stands none of them feel as if they have been done right or given enough time and it drags the show down.

Maybe they will ramp up the show significantly in the last 3 episodes but people will still remember the far too slow buildup.

Given most people were harping about this happening before the season even aired, considering the source material being so thin on excitement, and given that the producers must have known this as well, it is perplexing they couldn't have come up with a better paced and more gripping narrative. Does this portend their inability to do so? Not willing to go there quite yet, but these front 7 don't inspire much hope.

As it is Siddig's Prince Doran seems more like a recurring cameo than anything. He's Oberyn's brother, FFS. Give him something to do. And why do we have to keep seeing these Sand Snails anyway? They're eye-wateringly boring, tits and all (probably among the poorest acting I've seen on this show).

And is it just me or has all the sense of peril gone out of this show? Not saying they can't just kill off a main character for shock value (not including you-know-who), but nothing really seems to be on a knife's edge. The pit in the gut feeling I used to get when watching, ever since Ned bought it, has now faded.

I join others in hoping they step it up for the back three.

Agreed. There's certainly a lot of posturing. This season feels as though they're stringing us along while they wait to give us the big important stuff, which at this rate feels like it could all happen during the season finale. Even Daenarys and Tyrion meeting seemed too brief. I hope they make some more out of that.

While I agree with those who say this is the weakest (so far) of the five seasons, and while I've been ready for the Ramsay Bolton/Theon Greyjoy shit to be over with for more than a full season now, "The Gift" was at least true to its name. It presented me with each of the two things I've been waiting to happen since I first started watching Game of Thrones. Cersei is learning that Karma is just as much of a bitch as she is, and Tyrion and Daenerys have finally met face-to-face. Any complaints I might have about this episode are washed away by those two things.

Maybe this is explained better in the books but I just don't buy the authority and power this religious cult of what appears to be largely unarmed old men, women and boys has in a feudal kingdom - we've never see them before and now they are locking up royals left right and centre.

Also what's with thingy watching Slaves fight, I thought she was against that?

There are two problems I think - the books might kills off character X in future but if they are highly popular with viewers, the writers of the TV might ignore it. The other problem is that the main cast are signed for two more seasons - now they could throw money at them but at some stage, with a cast of this size, one of is going to say no - then what? How do you recast Tyrion for example?

Well, I think the most popular characters are actually the safest (to live at least to the last season), namely Tyrion, Jon, the Stark girls and Dany, there might be fan-favourites among the rest, but I wouldn't be suprised to see any one of them get killed at any time.

If you remember back a few episodes, Cersei opted to arm the faith militant, who'd been disarmed a few centuries back during the Targ era. The organisation is also attracting support by feeding the poor and tackling the corrupt or hypocritcal among the elite.

Added to which, you've the gap which Twyin left and the fact that Tommen is gentle to the point of softness. Had the sparrows taken Joffrey's bride or defied him, he'd have sent the troops in, consequences bedamned. Tommen wanted to avoid bloodshed and weakness has been scented. Plus he can't now order an attack or, as Cersei pointed out, Maergary would be the first casualty.

As to Mereen, there was dialogue to say that it was traditional for the ruler to attend the first lowly fights, hence Danys' reluctant attendance. Tying in with Daario's line about her being the least free person in the city.

Her decree was that only free men should fight but clearly that rule is being flouted by slavers etc - look at the scene where Tyrion and Jorah's new owner flipped a coin at the latter and told him those were his wages for the rest of his life.

Just be glad she did meet Tyrion at this lowly fight and we didn't have to see a long series of fights on the way to Mereen before they met

Very interesting development with Cersei. And littlefinger seems to have been the trigger for it, even though this was the kind of information the high sparrow should have had already (since the young man littlefinger referred to was one of the sparrows).

And while I understand why the showrunners decided to end the episode with the Cersei scene in jail, It would have been better to end it with the scene of Tyrion introducing himself to Daenarys. That would have been a more dramatic way to end the episode.

Yes, agreed. That's what I thought while watching it and I was surprised to see there was another scene after it.

60% percent of everything that happened on screen this season was nothing but filler. The plot progressed very little since the season premiere.

I mean, Stannis, come on, attack the fucking Winterfell already.

Remember, Westeros is a continent the size of South America, if not bigger. The trip from the wall to Winterfell is many hundreds, if not about a thousand, miles. It takes a long time for a large infantry force to move with supplies, and on foot, those distances, particularly in continuous driving snow several feet deep. They're slowed by dying horses and dying men and loss of morale tends to slow things too. Personally, I think Melissandre should build one of her big bonfires for the troops instead of asking to sacrifice Stannis' daughter.

Also, remember, that people move around the world at the Speed of Plot. :D

The speed of plot is one thing that I agree with - however I don't think the TV series has ever successful sold the idea that the places we are seeing are that massive.
