Whoa! I've been waiting for this and it totally snuck up on me. I'm glad I saw this Thread. :D

I've already seen both new episodes (Don't ask) and they were both pretty good. Not Futurama at it's very best, but generally fun. Nice to have it back.

Canadian fans: did we ever find out the if/who/when of new Futurama broadcasts up here? Can't find it anywhere in the listings...

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Both episodes were good, but not outstanding. The first one is a bit too in jokey.

Into the Wild Green Yonder was okay, but got a little tiresome by the end. Bender dating the mafia bot's wife was actually the best part.

I thought the episodes where pretty good and I laughed out loud plenty of times. Good to have the show back.

Futurama in true form I'd say, liked both eps, obviously the first one is to welcome back the show, so yes in-jokey which is exactly perfectly fine and warranted. The second one was pretty good, got vibes of Star Wars and Star Trek the Motion Picture with VGer.

Whereas I found it my least favorite part. It was pure padding in a story that should've been 25% shorter.

"Rebirth" was excellent, up there with some of the best. Some great Fry-Leela romantic stuff, lots of startling twists and turns, and some moments where I really thought they were about to make an irreversible change. Like the best Futurama episodes, it's driven by strong SF ideas and strong character dynamics as well as jokes and spectacle. My one complaint was that the music was more clearly electronic than it's been before, though I got used to it fairly quickly.

I wasn't as fond of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela." I'm not fond of Zapp Brannigan. It was unpleasant enough to watch him and Leela getting physical even when I thought he'd (temporarily) reformed his ways. But he turned out to be even more reprehensible than I'd ever imagined, and the whole situation was more sick than funny. The main thing I liked was the alien probe that managed to be an homage to "The Changeling," ST:TMP, and Star Wars all at the same time. Now that's some dense homagizing. And the black-and-white dream sequences were cute. (I realized after the fact that "transcredible" could actually be a legitimate word. It translates as "beyond believable.") Oh, and Leela in fig leaves for half the episode -- that was far from unpleasant.

Not sure, but I think there's a new billboard in the opening titles, just to the upper right of the screen the ship crashes into. I couldn't make out what it said. And I couldn't see if it was there in the shortened titles to the second episode.

I liked the second episode more than the first, it really felt like classic Futurama. "Rebirth" was good, too, but it had fewer laugh-out-loud moments, I thought.

They were both okay, I didn't feel like they were bad or great.

I'd give it a good. I thought the first one was better than the second, but it was worth a good chuckle or two.

I especially liked Zap's line, "Incoming yucky!"

Both solid if not spectacular episodes. I liked the second episode better. It was much more of a traditional Futurama story, while the first was more of an epilogue to Into the Wild Green Yonder.

Was the Janeway reference in the second episode Futurama's first nod to Voyager? All the other Trek shows have had at least one mention, but I don't remember any from Voyager.

I think the best part of both episodes was: unlike the direct-to-DVD movies, thes episodes actually felt like ... EPISODES. It ws almost completely like "Futurama" had never left.

Now this is the Futurama I remember. "Rebirth" was a good relaunch episode. The second one was okay, but not great. However, they were both better than the previous movies, which is, I hope, a good sign.

Was it me, or was Zapp written to be more snarky than he was before. I mean, I know he was always arrogant, but it was more "full-of-himself" arrogance than "in-your-face" arrogance. I am specifically referring to the beginning scene with him and Nixon. It was funny, but seemed out of character.

They ordered a full 26 episode season.

No idea where I came up with that 9 number. Glad I was wrong.

Though I can't find what Broccoli is referring to about it being split into 2 "seasons".

Either way, life is good.

I got that info here. It is not the first time Futurama's production season didn't match it's aired season. Actually, those two never matched (at least in the US).

Janeway was mentioned waaay back in "When Aliens Attack". Fry was piloting a ship and he compared himself to Janeway and Xena. And I am remembering a Seven of Nine reference, but I can't recall when it happened.

I thought that the writing wasn't quite up to par, and a lot of the jokes fell really flat. It could have a lot to do with my expectations being set so high. Regardless, I have confidence it will pick up steam as it goes along. It's great to have it back.

I was reading a review earlier today (I think at TV Squad, but can't seem to find it now), and the reviewer was talking about how different some of the voices were, especially Billy West, and especially Fry. He said Fry was a whole octave lower, so I was really listening for that. Basically, I couldn't tell any real discernible difference in any of the voices.
