I agree. Brother in-law who lived with him for quarter of a century, and his co-host who worked and lived together almost as long....and he didn't show up. That was weird.
IIRC, in the first episode it's said that Jessie and Rebecca haven't lived in their Tardis House for awhile, they moved in temporarily for the transition in moving back to L.A. When we see the attic space, when Kimmy moves in, it's clearly no longer being used as a living space and it's highly doubtful Nicky and Alex were sleeping in that closet with the tiny bunkbed.
Joey, as said in the episode, lives in Las Vegas, to sort of follow up on another "question" from earlier on why they're all still living in this same house after so long. I found it odd that the "studio light" was still above the basement staircase even though it'd seem the basement area has been reconverted back into a living space rather than the studio space Joey and Jessie used in the seires.
I've watched the first two episode and..... Yikes.
Maybe I need to see more of it but this thing is pretty damn painful.
Now, to be clear, I was a "fan" of the original. Watched it every Friday night as a kid, fell off of it into my teens when it was ending, but could still enjoy reruns. Hell, I can still enjoy the reruns today.
But this was painful.... Maybe the other episodes get better -and from some indications it does- but that first episode was a chore to get through. Too much winking at the audience and meta references. When they note Michelle's absence I'm not sure we needed their long, dismissive, stare at the camera/audience.
And I kind of find the new child characters very annoying. Particularly the youngest child. He just doesn't have the "cuteness" Michelle had at that age. He's trying way too hard to be "TV Cute."
The original actresses are all doing a good job and look great, though some of the stuff just seems odd. Like the inexplicable English accent Stephanie was doing int he first episode that was quickly reversed by Kimmy's feet. (sigh)
And Michelle spent a good chunk of her childhood helping to raise Michelle and to some level her nephews (Nicky and Alex) it's really that much of a struggle for her to watch over DJ's kid responsibly? She's probably changed a good deal of diapers in her past but "today" she can't do it without somehow losing her cellphone in the diaper?!
And, I dunno, even with the original show I hated how they all treated Kimmy. Yeah, she's got sort of a "strong" personality and, apparently, suffers from bromodosis
but in the original show these adults, three men and a woman, trying to properly raise three young girls properly treat this young neighbor kid like crap. How can they with one face tell their girls how to treat others kindly and fairly and then as soon as Kimmy steps in the door they go, "Oh, fuck her! Get out of her you whore!"
But now this person is an
adult and they still treat her like utter-shit. It's one thing to not like her, but she is your daughter's friend and a 30-40 year old woman, show some level of damn respect and common courtesy.
I dunno, the show hasn't yet "clicked" with me and, again, I was a fan of the original. Just something hasn't sparked here yet. The adult actors are doing fine, but the mugging and meta-references to the audiences are too much and the child characters (particularly the youngest) just aren't appealing enough.
I think Brad Jones:
Sums it up fairly well, I guess. Even though he wasn't/isn't a fan of the original show.
