Full Monty Shinzon.

Mr. Scott

Commander
I saw a movie last night with Tom Hardy, who played Shinzon in Star Trek X. It was called "Bronson", which is loosely a true story of a very angry man (who adopted the name Charles Bronson because of the actor's toughness) who because of his violence was dubbed "The most violent prisoner in the UK".

It was a British film and it wasn't bad, and actually had some dark humor attached to it. The Hardy character was a bare knuckle brawler, and the actor was very muscular for the role (more than wimpy looking Shinzon). The character because of petty crimes was put in prison and because of his violence of guards and other inmates was segreagted from them, adding on to his craziness.

The most shocking thing was that they showed Hardy (and his character) naked, as in FULL FRONTAL with his man parts hanging out for the World to see. In one part, he takes a guard hostage in his cell and strips naked. Then he starts putting lotion all over himself and then commands the guard to do the same to his backside and then orders him to sit back down. The reason for the oiling was that he knew that other guards were going to charge in and he wanted to fight them without the guards being able to get ahold of him.

Then later, he gets naked again, schlong out for the camera, after taking an art teacher hostage. He painted himself brown and waited for the guards again.

And yes, he has a big penis.

Just saying, if you see a promo of the film, expect some full monty and violence. Not for the faint at heart. Can UK movies show full nakedness now? In the USA, this would be an X rated film (just because of you know what). I have no problem with that, but some may.

It's an odd career trajectory this man has had. Traditionally, an actor becomes a villain in a Star Trek movie after they've already had a long and distinguished career with at least one iconic role under their belt (think Malcolm McDowell, F. Murray Abraham, Christopher Lloyd, or Christopher Plummer, for example). Tom Hardy, on the other hand, played Shinzon as his first major role (at 25!) and only now, 9 years later, has he started to be considered a rising star.

And since "Star Trek: Nemesis" was such a bad movie (even forgettable to people who saw it and aren't big Star Trek fans), Shinzon could be one of the roles he's least remembered for. I was surprised when Roger Ebert reviewed "Bronson" (considered by some to be Hardy's breakout role) and talked about Hardy's career so far by referring to him as someone who has been in a good number of British gangster films, completely ignoring his supposedly iconic Star Trek role.

Now that Hardy has played a small, but memorable role in "Inception" and will get to be a major villain again in "The Dark Knight Rises" (a movie that promises to be much, much better "Star Trek: Nemesis"), I'm sure the memory of him as Shinzon will continue to fade more and more in the public moviegoer consciousness. Except among us Star Trek fans, of course. :)

The BBC movie Eastern Promises has Viggo Mortensen fighting a bunch of assassins in a sauna. They're all clothed and armed to the teeth. All he has is his wits. I thought it took a lot of courage for him to film that but then I thought he's a brilliant actor, he probably didn't think anything about it, since it was all choreographed (and very wince-making).

My friend has your classic celebrity crush on Tom Hardy, but she (amusingly) keeps finding photos (still images, modeling shoots, etc) of Hardy flashing either the full penis or part of it. Suffice it to say, the Scimitar had *two* deadly weapons on board.

Yeah, the guy is pretty open about and comfortable with his sexuality. Along with the pictures online, further proof is in the interview where he was asked if he's ever had sex with a man and he calmly said, "Of course I have. I'm an actor!". :wtf:

I don't think it's fair to blame Hardy for ST: Nemesis' lack of success. His performance was solid enough, that film had other flaws.

Good to see he'll be in Dark Knight rises, but is he actually playing Bane or another role? I'm not too enthusiastic about the Bane/Catwoman villain combo for the movie, but Nolan has earned some trust from the previous movies.

Tom Hardy's actually pretty talented and he did what he could with the material given him in Nemesis... I just think the writing was so bad and the direction worse that he just couldn't do much with it.

Yes, he has confirmed that he'll be playing Bane. It's fortunate that he gave himself a head start on getting to the right weight for the role by bulking up for "Bronson".

Now he won't have to go through the crazy weight fluctuation like Christian Bale who seems to play a sickly skinny character every time he makes a movie before the next Batman movie (i.e. "The Machinist", "Rescue Dawn", and "The Fighter").

Although, as the prosthetic Johnson at the end of "Boggie Nights" indicates, what you see on screen ain't necessarily real.
