Bureaucrat guy really needs to go. Unless he turns out to not be what he seems, he's just another stock character right out of 24 who butts heads for no reason other than to bring the plot to a screeching halt and be an ass for the sake of being an ass.

I agree with you so much here. Took me right out of the show. Perhaps a better actor could have done more with it but it just didn't work.

So far i would say 9 out of 10 have been pattern-related. This is a break from that.

My guess is, assuming the show continues on for at least a few seasons, we are going to see more and more of that. Of course even this last episode may have been pattern related and we just don't know about it. A computer virus that kills people is pretty out there :)

When you consider the episode he debuted in, I was thinking maybe his ax to grind with Olivia was actually a smokescreen because he was there to find the double agent. But since that wasn't the case, he's just obnoxious and annoying and has no place on this show.

I enjoyed the episode as well and had some great gruesome imagery with the liquified brain matter. And I really enjoyed seeing Olivia relaxing at home with her sister and niece. It's a different side of her that we don't often see, and I like it. Also, a nice scene with Walter at the end.

I too do not like Agent Red Tape and think he's a pain in the ass. When he was in Olivia's office giving her a verbal lashing, I couldn't help imagine her drawing her weapon and shooting the idiot in the forehead. Alas, that didn't happen. If there is more to his character, I hope they get to it soon, because as others have mentioned his presence really has a way of detracting from the story. Man, and I thought the guy was annoying on Jericho! :D

Oh man, I completely forgot he was in Jericho! I was only remembering him playing a similar ass on Prison Break.

I watch the show for Olivia. At first I found her face a little manish but the more I watch her the more down right hott she is. Also Walter usually gets 1-2 good off the wall lines per episode. the comment about condoms was about as good as the one where Olivia and Pacey wake walter up and he innocently asks if they need to use the room for sex.
The Red tape guy is just pointless. There is NO way any agency would let him investigate Olivia and whatever agency she is part of when they know she nailed him on some kind of sexual harrassment case. That is totally a conflict of interest and they would Never assign him based on that...
That said I thought this episode was easily the worst of any I have caught. Oh yeah this guy creating the virusthingy just happened to be within city limits or at least very close to Olivia so it would be very easy for him to be caught? And he seemed to be caught way too easily.

I've tried to watch this show three times now and I just don't get the love for it.

It's boring. (How can you make liquifying brains, boring?) The lead can't act. The plots aren't really any better than on Eleventh Hour, which has a much better cast. And red-tape guy just sucks all the air out of the whole show.

I watched the whole episode this time. Done with that now.

Love the show in general, didn't quite like this one too much. That Frank Burns character ought to go, quick. No real drama there.

Where's the Observer?!?

My wife and I are watching. Good episode if a little unoriginal. I gave it an "Average" rating.

I gave it an Above Average. This show is so cool. It hits alot of the high points of classic X-Files but has its own vibe and originality. Walter is a great character. I also like the fact that they pulled back on showing scenes of Massive Dynamics. It makes them more mysterious. You know they're still pulling the strings. You can't tell me that the guy who wrote that virus didn't get outside help to obtain the equipment. He may have had the knowhow, but he needed the resources and hardware to make it a reality. Tre he was fired from his job, but no severance pay could get you all those screens and hardrives that was shown.

Seems to be quite a bit of agreement on this. For me, it is not that the character has an axe to grind, is out to shut down the department, or is an obstructionist. It's that he is ridiculously so. He seems to be thrown in the mix just to artificially make things more difficult.

The episode itself was Average. After a slow start, Fringe seemed to be gathering steam for a bit, but this episode slowed it down. I am not certain if it was the abundance of personal life matters entering the show seemingly all at once, or my irritation with Agent Obstruction.
