Fresh eyes on VOY

So I'm rewatching VOY with a 9 and 10 year old. It's their first Star Trek. They have seen every possible permutation of Star Wars multiple times. Some of the comments have been hilarious. We are in season 2.

10 year old: Is Chakotay a Vulcan?

Me: No.. he's a human. Why do you ask?

10 year old: Because he never shows any emotions.



(Every single time I remember this exchange I burst out laughing)

9 year old: I used to think I was good at science but these people are REALLY good. I can't understand anything they are talking about!

Repeated exclamations from both of them after prolonged technobabble scene: Wow, these people are really smart!

During one of Neelix's jealousy scenes: Neelix is in looooove.. it's disgusting. I hope there is no kissing in this.

10 year old: This is different than Star Wars. This is more about problem solving and mysteries.

Anyway I will update this thread with any Voyager observations that crack me up over the coming months.

On the Doctor Who board after each new episode there is a thread titled "What did the Kids and the 'not we' think?" and we share the youngest and the most casual fan's reactions. It can get pretty funny at times.

Three children run up to Tuvok and throw their arms around him.

10 year old : Wow that is really embarrassing.

9 year old: Well they're only about 6 years old. When you're 6 you're really dumb.

Tuvok and the child Tressa enter the cave for Tressa to finish her life.

10 year old (very excited): She is going to evaporate like Obi-Wan Kenobi when Vader slashed him down with the light saber!

The episode concludes.

9 year old: But if they are born old how do they fit into their mother's womb?

9 year old: Clowns are supposed to be funny but they really aren't.

Tuvix

Tuvix tells Janeway she is lovely.

10 year old: This is so embarrassing.

Tuvix tells Kes he loves her.

Harry Kim plays the clarinet.

10 year old: Wow he is really good. This sounds like the sort of music you would hear in old stone houses in the past.

9 year old: Tuvix's hair looks like a tail, a PONY tail [laughs uproariously during poignant scene]

I can't wait for their reaction to Tom and B'elanna kissing scenes in season 3's Blood Fever! Not to mention Harry making out with his alien soul-mate in season 5's The Disease.
