Frasier revival

Ep 10 (was that the season finale?) was a touching, heartfelt and nostalgic story. You really feel the loss that Frasier and Freddy are feeling for Martin. I think many can relate to that feeling of loss when we miss a family member who passed away, especially around the Christmas season. But also, we the audience, also miss Martin who was a beloved character in the OG Frasier. So I think we feel that loss too.

It was really nice to see Freddy do so much to make Frasier happy and Eve happy. He went out of his way to get Roz because he knew it would cheer Frasier up. He also went out of his way to make a party for Eve to cheer her up. He is a hero! We can see that Freddy really loves his dad and has a good heart. That was very touching. I also appreciated the little moments when Eve and Frasier would ask Freddy if he was ok. Too often the person who runs around making other people happy, might be trying to avoid their own pain. The episode even mentions this directly.

The game that Alan and David played was fun. It was also great to see Roz back but it felt too short for me. I would have liked to see her more in the episode. I also think the episode would have been better if Niles had also been there. There is a scene with Frasier calling Niles on the phone but having Niles back in person would have been great. I know the actor did not want to return but that is unfortunate.

"Damnit, Frasier!"

This was such a sweet and delightful episode. It managed to strike the right balance for all of the characters, while still maintaining the main focus of how Frasier and Freddy are coping on their first Christmas without beloved people in their lives.

And then we got Roz! While I was moderately disappointed that she had a limited role in the episode, her entrance was perfect. I loved watching her and Frasier reconnect over old times and the new...and how some things never change (room full of firefighters, Roz!).

But above all, this was again such a lovely tribute to both John Mahoney and Martin Crane. They'll both deeply missed. But at least we still have that dancing Santa!

I do agree it's a shame we didn't get Niles completely, but we certainly got some fun Nilesisms viewing one-sided conversations. That'll have to do until David Hyde Pierce might be convinced to return.

Was I the only one expecting Frasier and Roz to walk into Olivia and Moose?...Probably too cliched.

Probably too cliched.
What show are YOU watching? :D

David has finally come into his own!

David and Alan are something that Frasier didn't really have: Cliff and Norm!

You meant to order 24 chairs and ONE tree?

I can't see the florist for the trees!

One might say we're not out of the woods yet! BWAAAHAHAHAHA!

I wish Roz's appearance hadn't been spoiled weeks ago. I mean, make it a surprise or don't.

This was a nice bit of tap dancing of a few different comedic styles. And a touching story. Again leaning heavily on the Frasier references. (Did Martin's decorations actually appear in Frasier? I'm a Star Trek obsessive, not a Frasier obsessive.)

I'm sorry the season was so short. But such is the way of things.

The item that Martin mentions that is missing is the dancing Santa that we saw in this week's episode.
It was on for 11 seasons. They must have had at least 2 or 3 x-mas episodes

Maybe dancing Santa appeared some other time?

Everything gets spoiled because more viewers are more important than angry viewers. NYPD Blue brought back a dead character for a surprise and the ads spoiled the return. ER was one show that kept a major cameo quiet.

Although I do remember when NBC hyped up Noah Wylie's two-episode return on ER and he only showed up for the final seconds of the first episode. Would've been better for the audience if his return was a surprise, and then NBC could hype the hell out of the episode that's actually about him.

I forgot to ask before: Was this finale's stinger the first one to have any audio aside from the classic playing over it? It worked for the scene but it still threw me off.

That was a bittersweet season finale, and seeing Roz again was so nicely done.

I hope there is a second season.

The worst for me was

when Doctor Who brought back David Simms' Master for Peter Capaldi's last episodes. I'm fairly certain that it I hadn't known ahead of time they would have gotten away with it. But if I knew it was fairly obvious.

I never got any of the classic Anthony Ainley surprise reveals. That was my chance.

OTOH, they TOTALLY got me with Sacha Dhawan's first appearance.

Anywho, back to Frasier!

Have just been catching up on the discussion in this thread and only now realized that this was already it for season one! Damn, had no idea that was supposed to be the season finale last week. Looking back I guess the whole Christmas story and the return of you know who could have clued me in that it was the finale, but it totally didn't register that way. Funnily enough I thought this was the first episode where David worked for me. Pairing him up with Alan was a great choice. Does anyone know why that original series cameo came so late in the episode?

My wife and I are huge Frasier fans and we were cautiously optimistic when this revival started. Some of the new characters took some getting used to (especially David and Olivia), and I didn't feel they had the right kind of humor down in the first few episodes, but overall we really warmed to it over the course of its run. Freddy, Eve and Alan are delightful and it seems like Grammer slipped back into his Frasier self effortlessly. Here’s hoping they’ll announce a second season soon.

DHP seems to be softening about doing the show now. Before in interviews he seemed pretty deadset against it, now he's saying he was in talks with them but since it's nothing that he particularly desired to do and had other projects he wanted to do more he opted out of the first season.

“I never really wanted to go back,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s not like I said, ‘Oh, I don’t ever want to do that again.’ I loved every moment. It was that I wanted to do other things. And when we got into real talks about the reboot, I had just started on the ‘Julia’ TV show and was working on a musical and going to do another musical, not this one. And I just thought, ‘I don’t want to be committed to a show and not be able to do stuff like this.’ And I also thought, ‘They don’t actually need me.’ Frasier has moved on to a new world. They have new characters. And I think I’m right. It’s doing great. And the new people they have are great.”

Presumably to allow the new cast establish itself and stand on their own. Much the same way the original show avoiding bringing back any of the Cheers cast for awhile. Lilith is the exception in both cases because she has an intimate connection with both Frasier and Freddy, latter of whom plays a vital part of the show this time around.

That's encouraging and I wondered if his reasons for not doing the show (for now) were rooted in the very reasons he talked about in that quote. Between that and hopefully seeing how well that season is received, along with how seeing how Peri and Bebe enjoyed returning in supporting roles, might help encourage him to return in an occasional guest capacity. Considering the importance of David's role in the show and the hinted nature of his relationship with his parents, I really want to see both Niles and Daphne return because I think that's rich ore for the show to mine on a sporadic case (so not to overdo it).

Yes. He didn't want Frasier to be legacy continuation rebootqueled because he was against them in principle. He's said shows of their time should stay in their time, regardless of the quality of the continuation. If you go back a couple pages there should be some links to interviews he'd given over the years about them.

I think you read “season” where I wrote “episode”. What I meant was that it felt weird how late in the finale the special guest star appeared and how as a result of that she was barely in the episode. I enjoyed seeing her again all the same, but it felt weird, because when they brought back Lilith it was for the entire episode, not just the last act.
