It wasn't so much of a lever, but a sort of rubber oval that you would press. It definitely had both, but it was a loooong time ago. Hell, I could be remembering 2 different pens as one.

Oh, that makes sense, it had a squeeze converter.

Pilot Varsity pens are nice fountain pens. The inserts make for nice greebles.
