Forgotten History blurb

Actually MM had nothing to do the the crossover gizmo. It didn't come into play until the second DS9 MU episode, Shattered Mirror. And it was used by Smiley who didn't even know about Memory Omega at the time, so I doubt they had anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure the Federation never actually used it themselves, so as far as I know they didn't have any access to it themselves.

I agree completely, I just wanted to point out that the second DS9 MU episode was "Through the Looking Glass," not "Shattered Mirror." That said, carry on!

Also, to be clear (and to make up for the thread hijack a bit): My "most scifi" post was not a comment on Christopher's work - on the contrary, recent threads have repeatedly called him out as an example of a TrekLit author adept and rigorous at applying scientific and technological concepts, and what I read of his works so far supports that conclusion.

Starting from the incident from "Mirror, Mirror", the mirror universe terran empire/memory omega managed to create the interuniverse teleportation technology.
The federation, despite having vastly more resources than memory omega, failed to do so - it even failed when having the DS9 interuniverse teleporter device. Highly unimpressive.

JD, I didn't intend to continue the conversation on this topic in this thread, but...what you said is directly contradicted by canon: DS9 - The emperor's new cloak.
By the timeframe of that episode, the federation had complete plans of the "multidimensional transporter" (courtesy of the mirror universe) - "multi" also carrying certain implications pertaining to the capabilities of said device.

I agree.
Christopher's work is the most 'hard sci-fi' star trek lit you will find.
Another of Christopher's strengths is worldbuilding - see, for example, 'orion's hounds'.

Implications aren't hard evidence. Anyway, I did mention the device in question in Watching the Clock, on p. 319. I said it was a limited form of relay that could link transporter pads in two different timelines and "could only be targeted upon a previously identified alternate realm." So it couldn't be used to discover new timelines, just ones that had been visited and documented before -- and which had compatible transporter technology. Now, since Worf apparently brought back no hard data about the timelines he visited in "Parallels," the "coordinates" for those timelines wouldn't be known. And once you rule those out, the Mirror Universe is about the only one left that they could reach (that we know of canonically, anyway).

Ok, I'll admit I was going purely on memory there, so I will gladly admit I was wrong. And besides, I don't see any reason why the Federation would want to complicate their lives by adding other realities into the mix, they have enough to deal with in just one reality.

Great cover

I was excited about this book before I'd even read Watching the Clock. Christopher is one of my favorite current Trek authors and I love his "Hard SF" leanings. Watching the Clock was easily one of the best Trek books I've read in the past few years & one of the best I've ever read.

The fact that Forgotten History is a prequel/sequel of sorts AND it has Christopher dealing with TOS characters again makes it a must read for me.

Is this book going to be as science heavy as the last one?

Not quite, since I've already laid out the core theories in Watching the Clock. But there's still a lot of exploration of science, history, engineering, politics, and other things with my usual level of detail.
