wish they would not only have started off with a short recap/flashback of season 1, but also expanded the one they key event since.

a solar flare/storm is/was a good story.
I'm glad there wasn't an invasion/attack from the other side during that (at least so far).

Don't get why Molly went out there, knowing she'll catch a lethal dose and with no hope that the injured moon-buggy driver won't succumb to either the accident injures or the lethal dose. Guess leave no-one behind kinda thing, going out as a hero.

the NASA boss smart lady workaholic sleeping in the office (probably living there full time...) made me chuckle.
Hope to see the (Latin) Dreamer girl she kinda took harshly under her wing, appear this season and succeed.
Her Assistant was hilarious, but also badass in a way, so many updates and tasks around the globe and above.

FYI, I just looked on the iTunes store to buy the season one soundtrack, and, for some reason, the soundtrack album for season two has already dropped, and the track titles do contain spoilers of greater and lesser degree, so be warned. There's nothing quite as obvious as "Qui-Gon's Noble Death," but there are definite clues for twists and big moments I'll now be trying to forget.

I have red/green colorblindness so can't really distinguish the colors on their arm radiation detectors - Molly's is supposed to be green, right? I assume she took it off to be able to remain in the space program ( she knew if she went out there the radiation would be too much and she would be dismissed on medical grounds) but what about her colleagues band? Red or Green?

It was an early and bitter childhood disappointment that red-green colorblindness would keep me from being a professional pilot, never mind astronaut, so I had complicated feelings when I had that same moment. Come on, folks, it's not hard to pick shades of red and green that are distinct to everybody. The traffic light people did it.

Ellen mentioned NASA expected the storm to last at least three hours. There's a big difference between three hours of radiation exposure and fifteen minutes, potentially. We'll find out more later, but it's certainly possible Cobb still gave the other astronaut years of life before it catches up to him, rather than letting him roast out there and get an immediately lethal dose.

The opening recap did also set up a contrast with her telling Tracey not to come after her during her "Gravity" moment in season one, so I'm sure that'll also be a factor.

Until that scene, I'd forgotten the first season also began with Margot sleeping in her office, which made me look back and wonder if she didn't refuse to let Aleida live with her because she doesn't actually live anywhere.

We spend most of our time with astronauts and Mission Control, they wouldn't be talking much about spacecraft they weren't going to have for several years down the line (especially in the second half of the season, which was one rolling crisis after another where everyone's thinking was extremely short-term).

They dropped a hint about the Sea Dragon early in season one, von Braun is seen showing a model of it to the congressional panel. There may be an STS easter egg buried someplace in that season as well.

Leave no man behind - that's pretty much it. I'm not sure if Molly has a military background but she sure went through militay style training at NASA and the same as soldiers astronauts rely on teamwork and trust. She is just not the type to leave a teammate behind.

Just a side note (not to derail this thread) - a short while ago i started the game Cyberpunk and it actually has options to adjust color setting for various forms of color blindness, including full color blindness. It crops up here and there in games i've seen, i just wish more developers would think about this when they choose red/green for enermy and your own troops colors.

I also thought as a kid it would be so cool to be a pilot but then again i have red/green color blindness AND i am far sighted, so this idea was nixed very early on

Star Wars Squadrons had the same thing. I turned it off nearly immediately because the dark blue they replaced red with didn’t stand out as much against space, looked uglier than the (already distinct enough for me) default colors, and it confused the hell out of me when the tutorial level told me to look for a red indicator that was actually blue because of the accessibility settings. It’s definitely appreciated that they’re trying, but some attempts are more successful than others so far. Using shape, position, texture, saturation, and value in addition to color is much better for avoiding red/green or blue/yellow issues than just swapping out your primaries to something hideous and unnatural compared to the default design people cared about, and it also makes things easier for people with standard color vision, too, by having multiple vectors communicating the same information. Just like how traffic lights are always in the same order, or signs have color, shapes, and words all working together.

So burned though it the past couple days, Really quite good, lots better than the Netflix stuff with Hillary Swank and the OMG Awful Katie Sackoff one..

Interesting with some of the Alt history stuff, Ted Kennedy instead of Ford, and Reagan beating him in 76. So that means that Reagan is timed out by 83, so 84 would be Bush Sr.? Or go with somebody else? Within the time frame of the season so may see that played out. And Moore did say they'd be straying farther from the "prime"

The Radiation effect on the moon was F'n cool! But Marge goin out there.. She shouldn't have basically, noticed a few things like that in Season 1 as well, some Shouldn't have done that but did because there morons type of stuff.
Said to myself when i was watching, it'll take you atleast 5 minutes to "Jog" there to rescue, then 5 back, thats 10 minutes Minimum, and had to drag him back so that added atleast another 10 so looking at 25 minutes in Very bad radiation. Honestly showing her dying on the attempt would have been plausible. But we'll see, reminds me of K19 movie.. ugh..

As the side note, I to have some partial color blindness, I can see red/green fine, but I read A Thing in those number/letter color dots. Had to get a waiver to get in to the military. Brothers are worse however, oldest is almost completely color blind. So yeah, I understand how being told kinda ruins some plans. Good luck!

I think that's too big for the scope of the show but it doesn't have to be a World War but if they continue the technological development at that pace they will have the first Warpflight by season 6.

Loved this. My favourite parts were probably the ones with Gordo and with Ed's family. I love Karen and Shantal was so great last season and I while they use a bigger canvas this year I hope we get more moments with them. Love all the little AU details like in history and the electric cars. It was fun noticing a lot of the trailer scenes were from this episode so I'm not sure what to expect in the rest of the series.

I was rewatching the first episode with a friend I was recommending the show to, and it made me think that Gordo's speaking engagement where he started rambling and trailed off with a thousand yard stare before he recovered and went back into his practiced patter was almost exactly the same thing he did with Ed and Pam at the bar before the Apollo 11 landing, where he started off speculating about what their first words on the moon would've been, had a heartfelt, emotional monologue about the 1968 Chicago Riots, trailed off, and then "revealed" it was all setup for a stupid sex joke.

Or, in light of him doing the same thing regarding an experience we know got under his skin, was it?

So, hooray for maladaptive coping strategies enforced by rigid gender and social roles. Thematically, that's also hit on in the first episode, where Karen calls out Ed for breaking the oh-so-important code of silence with a reporter before he'd tell her what he really thinks.

I'm curious what design they're going to go with for Pathfinder. Feels a little too early for the 'Venture Star' type designs, so I'm guessing it'll probably look more like the proposed 'Shuttle II LaRC'.
Still putting money on some variation of Orion for what seems like an inevitable Mars, Venus or even Jupiter mission. Pretty sure the news montage thing mentioned Reagan had backed the US out of the nuclear proliferation and test ban treaties, which is mostly what killed the concept in reality.

Kon-Tiki, Columbia, Beagle, Discovery, Enterprise, Endeavour, Atlantis, Victoria, and Constitution.

There are also (currently) unnamed shuttles in use by the military, and a Mark 2 shuttle called Pathfinder.

I love to see good stories on TV ....and writters that care a lot to give good background stories to the characters.

1976 - Reagan defeats Kennedy after a 5-4 Supreme Court decision states all partially marked ballots in Ohio must be counted. Reagan wins Ohio by 713 votes giving him the needed Electoral College votes to win.

1977 - Sea Dragon launches. Cargo rocket carries over 1 million pounds of building supplies, equipment, and fuel for Jamestown expansion and mining operations. Sea Dragon almost entirely reusable. Reagan campaigned in part on continued growth of space program. He wants to expand use of Sea Dragon in the future, both on the Moon and beyond.

1978 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind wins all 12 Oscars it was nominated for, including Best Picture. Richard Dreyfus wins for Close Encounters and was also nominated for The Goodbye Girl. Star Wars wins two Oscars. Diane Keaton wins Best Actress for Annie Hall, its only win.

1979 - US keeps Panama Canal. “We bought it. We paid for it. We built it and we intend to keep it.” Panama increasingly under Soviet influence, demands ownership of the Canal, and sees anti-American riots. Reagan reversed Kennedy’s more conciliatory position on the Canal. Canal is key transportation route for Sea Dragon which travels from Cape Kennedy to its launch site near Guam.

1980 - John Lennon shot twice, but survives assassination attempt. Lennon was leaving recording studio with fellow musician Burley Day after working on anti-war song. Day tackled Mark David Chapman and got gun out of Chapman’s hand.

1981 - Military Space Shuttle launches. This is not the first Shuttle launch, but is the first launch intended solely for military use. Shuttle launches from Vandenberg and flies over troubled Middle East region after failure of Camp David talks between Israel and Egypt. News report specifically mentions Shuttle has ability to attack targets with little to no warning. Soviet Union claims to be months away from launching its own shuttle.

1982 - Berlin Crisis. Couple scales Berlin Wall to escape East Germany. East German and Soviet border guards pursued them into West Berlin in a tank and killed the couple. Tank challenged by heavily armored US and West German troops. Small arms fire exchanged. Tense stand-off lasts until morning. Reports of Soviet reinforcements cause US to go to DEFCON 4.

EDIT: Here are additional news reports from the Apple app for the show. It has Danny Stevens, son of astronauts Gordo and Tracy looking at momentos, one of which is a VHS tape. The app takes place in Summer 1980.

On February 3, 1980 US rescues hostages from embassy in Iran. US uses 8 Sea Stallion helicopters, but when they got to the staging area, 2 broke down with mechanical problems and the remaining 6 continued the mission after avoiding a sandstorm. 6 hostages and 3 Delta Force soldiers killed in operation. Estimated that dozens of Iranians were also killed.

Mission Commander Tracy Stevens launches on maiden voyage of Shuttle Atlantis. Brings crew replacement for Skylab. This is Stevens’ third trip to Skylab.
