Five Guys Burgers ... People like them?

Never had it...if I don't prepare burgers and fries at home...I go to Wendy's.

It was a Wendy's!

Yeah I got a slicer and a cutter...they both do small and big fries from a whole potato. :bolian:

I like to sprinkle them with salt, pepper, and thyme. Then I boil them in peanut oil for a bit, before finally finishing them off in the oven.

A Five Guys just opened up in my area about a month or so ago...about five minutes from a McDonalds'...which was five minutes from a Burger King...which was five minutes from a Wendy's...which was five minutes from a Rally's...

And yet the White Castles further up the street is beating them all as far as business is concerned. Go fig.

Yech. Really didn't like White Castle when I lived in STL. Now Krystal.... :adore:

My wife and I love Five Guys. Fresh, juicy, just the right hint of seasonings. I wonder if there is proper quality control happening throughout the franchise as it's kind of weird to see such polar opposite opinions on the quality of the burger.

The fries - outstanding.

However, my favorite "fast food" or "fast casual" burger is Freddy's Steak Burgers. Nom nom nom.

There's a Five Guys in the city we "suburb upon," but I haven't tried it yet. The couple of times I've been in the area at lunchtime, though, they had a line backed up out the front door and down the sidewalk. And I've heard they're pretty good.

I think Propita may be experiencing a case of bad franchisee quality control.

I use this Nature's Seasoning stuff...it is ok...but sometimes just a little bit of salt works for me.

I've been to them twice so far. My first time was when I was visiting D.C, and I even left a note for them on their wall. Second time was in Albany last year. I like them a lot.

This is what I put on their wall. The one from Canada:

From what I've heard, the difference between their sliders depends on what side of the Mason-Dixon Line you're on.

Rallys/Checkers is also good. We have Checkers here in California.

I haven't had a Krystal in a while, but I remember liking them better than White Castle.

Don't know how you got a dry burger as they cook them all to order.

We don't go out of our way to eat there, but I'm rarely disappointed when we do, the burgers are hot and just perfectly charred and the fries are great (esp. the Cajun seasoning).

A little higher on the scale though, and it's Red Robin. The seasoning for the fries is awesome.

Smashburger should be called Trashburger. Maybe it was opening week break-in, but it was just astoundingly mediocre.

I liked Five Guys when I first tried their burgers, but I've quickly outgrown my appetite for them. There are two locations within 15 miles of where I live, the closest one just five minutes away. It surely is a very popular place and is always crowded, and I like their Cajun fries and the complimentary peanuts. What I don't like is that the buns get too soggy because of way too much stuff, and the whole freakin' sandwich falls apart. I hate that.

I like Fuddrucker's variety of burgers much better (ostrich, buffalo, elk, wild boar), which are tasty and lean at the same time. I've also tried Pearl's Burger here in the Bay Area, which is far superior to Five Guys and other fast-food places.

I wasn't impressed with Five Guys. The burgers were ok but I hated the fries. They were so greasy it soaked through the bag and I didn't like the seasoning. Hell, I even like McDonald's fries better.
Fuddruckers burgers are much better but unfortunately there are no Fuddruckers anywhere around where I live.

I've never been to a Five Guys, but I'd love to try them some time. I like burgers, but I really love fries, and if Five Guys' fries are as good as you all are making them sound...

I just found out there's actually one here in Maine, but it's in Portland, which is about an hour's drive for me. I'm not going to make a two hour trip just to go to a fast food place, but next time I'm in town I'm definitely going to check it out. :techman:

I prefer....Flemings, or Ruth's Chris.

Are you seriously comparing a fast food place to two high-class steakhouses?

Five Guys burger and fries is about $6--the same price as Happy Hour burger and fries at Flemings and Ruth's Chris. Vastly different quality, as you noted, for the same price. And at Flemings' bar, you get free fresh-made and very addictive potato chips.

Five Guys burgers, at least here, were not Cooke to order. They had about 20 or more laid out and were assembly-lining them. So they sat there at least as long as it took to finish putting ALL of them together. Only a few minutes, but still, that's still not made to order.

I still want to try Umami Burger in LA. Supposed to be THE best in the US, but ~$11!! Years ago, we tried "Mo' Better Meaty Meat Burgers" in LA on south Fairfax. They're long-closed, and the best thing about them was the name. Great name. Went to The original Tommy Burgers in LA years ago--in Rampart Precinct. Yeah, the area's described by the police precinct, but since the cops are so close, it's pretty safe there.

I've eaten at two, in Schaumburg, IL and in Merrillville, IN. Both were really good. My in-laws prefer Red Robin or Fudruckers for burgers though. However, the best restaurant burgers, hands down, are served at the Dixie Lunch in Antigo, WI.

The best burgers, period, are served for lunch at a fundraiser stand outside Weber's Meats in Cuba City, WI on Fridays and Saturdays in the summer. The meat is so fresh, it was probably alive the day before.
