Five Guys Burgers ... People like them?

Five Guys, In N Out, I've had them both. People think they're a member of some secret club for eating at these places. Mediocre food at best, and pretty much every town has a better local establishment that makes a better burger that's just as cheap, but if you don't think that one of these franchises is THE BEST BURGER EVAR!, you're likely to get crucified in some corners of the internet.

Animal style is a disgusting mess, sorry.

... I sent them a complaint through the website, and a few hours later, I got a call from Craig fucking Culver himself, calling me from his cell phone...

I was reading about this sort of policy the other day (not with regard to Culver but to some other businesses). It's a shrewd idea to direct at least a small percentage of complaints to somewhere very high up the food chain. Even if only a small %age get such upper-echelon attention, the positive word of mouth generated by this reaps massive long-term rewards, especially in the online age. For instance, people will mention it years after the event. It's a really clever strat.

The fries ohhh man. I was almost able to eat all of them. I mean they are just... great. I left one behind in the car as an air-freshener. :)

  You sound like my dad. He loves the smell of his car after he takes Five Guys fries home.

I'm planning to go to Five Guys for lunch tomorrow.

QFT! I agree 100%. :)

...but the obscene mountain of fries was offensive. Being a cheap guy, wasting 3/4 of my fries goes against everything I was raised to do.

You don't have to waste them. You can take them home with you and reheat them later.

True, but...

I was staying at a hotel and walked 1.9 miles to get there. Hauling a bag of fries back to a room with a microwave didn't seem all that practical.

Just because I can take them home and reheat them isn't a reason to excuse having to order a mountain of fries in order to get any. They should have a smaller order of fries available for those of us that only want enough for lunch.

I've been to Five Guys here. That being said, I don't understand the appeal. $12 for a burger, fries, and a drink in a fast food joint is asinine. I walked out, went around the corner, and ate at the Chuckbox, the place that constantly wins awards for best burger in the city, for $8.

I got a call from Craig fucking Culver himself, calling me from his cell phone -- he apologized profusely, admitted that the particular location had been having some issues as of late, and at that moment he was actually driving from the Madison area down to Platteville to do a surprise inspection.

Well it either worked, or my timing has been very good. Pretty sure we've eaten in the Platteville shop more than once.

I lived in the Dubuque area from 2002 - 2010, but my wife graduated from Platteville in 2007, so I was up in Platteville quite a bit. Didn't eat at the Culver's store there too often, but I had one particularly lousy experience and so I went to their website to kvetch. At best, I expected a form letter. And the service there definitely improved after my bitch session.

The burgers, I have to admit are top notch, but the fries, while hot, fresh and, well, plentiful, were decidedly average... We have a local place called Blakes that has amazing fries. Now if I could just get their fries at Five Guys...

I prefer In & Out. 5 guys is OK, although I haven't been to the new local one, one of my clients in Chattanooga brought them in for a lunch meeting.

In & Out Fries, order them well done, much better.

My local Five Guys is pretty decent, but I only eat there every once in a while. I have to be in the right mood for a huge burger.

I try to stay away from beef burgers but I've eaten at Five Guys a couple of times. They get amazing reviews, so I'm assuming food reviewers tend to have different tastes than avg consumers...cause I thought the burgers were avg. My wife, who lived out west for many years tells me In-and-Out Burger is superior. Who knows..

RAMA

I have eaten at 5 Guys once and I thought it was good. We have two really close to us, however we prefer Bobby's Burger Palace which just opened a new location really close to us. They are also going to be opening a Shake Shack soon, which is good because I usually only get a burger from them at Citi-Field, the Mets stadium.
