Five Guys Burgers ... People like them?

Five Guys in D.C. (where they started) are pretty fantastic burgers.

DC actually has a good amount of good burger places. There's Five Guys, Ray's Hellburger, BGR, Elevation Burger, Fuddruckers... we just need an In-N-Out.

As you know, lived right next to Rays Hellburger for a couple years :). Used to wander over there all the time!

Five Guys is pretty good, and I love their fries.
However Smashburger has better burgers; especially the Colorado Burger with the green chiles, and the one that has guacamole and jalapenos, whatever it's called.

Driving cross country back to the east coast, I made a point of stopping at the eastern-most In-N-Out in Dallas, TX of all places. Really wish they'd come further east.

In the meantime, I do occasionally enjoy Five Guys. Particularly when I can pre-order on the iPhone app and have a fresh hot burger, with jalepenos, waiting for me when I come to pick it up. The fries are decadent and I could never get through a full serving by myself.

They opened up a Five Guys in my Florida city last year; I went once and won't go back.

Mediocre burgers. So much salt on the fries I nearly gagged.

Certainly not worth the price. I can go into a number of decent sit-down restaurants and get great burgers far better for the same price.

I thought that Five Guys was really good. My experience was NOTHING like the OP.

In fact, I would say the fries were a little UNDER cooked.

Still, I prefer Smashburger.

There is a 'Five Guys' joint in Kingston. The burger was okay, but not worth what they were charging for it.

I almost never eat ground beef anymore, but Five Guys burgers are the main exception I occasionally indulge in. I think they're wonderful. Personally I prefer my burgers well-done. The fries are good too, but there are way too many of them to have in one sitting -- but that just means I can have leftovers (though reheating leftover fries is tricky).

I also like it that they serve hot dogs too, though I'm not crazy about the sandwich-style presentation with the dog cut in half and the bun split into two. It's odd -- there have always been so many places to get hamburgers, but for the longest time, it was almost impossible to find a restaurant or fast-food place that served hot dogs (other than chili dogs). That seems to be changing now. I've been able to get hot dogs at Five Guys and Steak n' Shake, and I just saw that the "Chicago Gyros" eatery in my neighborhood is about to add Chicago-style hot dogs to its menu.

There are several Five Guys around here. I think they're pretty good burgers, but just too expensive for my budget.

Never had a bad burger at any Five Guys I've ever been to. They're always juicy and tasty at the one in my neighborhood. And the fries are awesome.

First time I ate at Five Guys, I swore I'd never eat at McDonald's, Burger King, or Wendy's again.

I'm kind of surprised by all the positive talk of Red Robin though. I think their burgers are okay but not any better or worse than all the other sit-down chains out there.

Yeah, Red Robin's offerings are nothing remarkable, especially considering the buns are entirely too thick in comparison to the size of the burger patties.

There's a Five Guys here in Madison, not too far from my office, though I've only eaten there once. It was pretty much as I expected ... a standard gob of greasy food that left me full afterwards. Nothing spectacular, but not terrible, either. I haven't gone back because I'm not interested in having my heart explode.

I eat Five Guys mostly for the fries... They always give me much more than I could ever finish, even with the small sized fries.

That's a restaurant where eating and sharing with others is very much encouraged.

Now, a while back we used to have a sit-down style restaurant that specialized in burgers (Fuddruckers) and they were awesome. The only local franchise we had here closed down a few years ago so: :(. And the other sit-down style restaurants around here mostly have okay burgers.
Another +1 for Fuddruckers, that place was amazing. Haven't seen one in years.

As far as the fast food variety, though, I tend to agree with others that Five Guys is among the best. It's not even a contest to compare it to places like Wendys and Burger King, because Five Guys burgers are actually REAL hamburgers. Like In-n-Out (which is a totally different type of burger anyway), they use fresh ingredients and real potatoes.

I can't believe people actually like McDonalds. I wouldn't eat there if you paid me, and their fries are by far the WORST. Even Burger King has better fries, and their burgers can barely be called burgers.

But, as others have pointed out, the best burgers are going to come from your local joints. That's because they're made by real people who just love making burgers out of actual beef.

All that being said, in my town the In-n-Out is next door to a Chipotle, so I'll be getting a burrito.

We got a Five Guys here a few years ago, and it's great! We don't go to any other fast food burger places anymore. And one large cup of fries, with the way they put extra in the bag, is more than enough for all 5 of my family. Red Robin is okay, but way too expensive, and more of a sit-down type restaurant.

It was thin, flat, dry, crumbly, as were all the others that were being assembly-lined together.
Completely opposite to my experience. Everything is always fresh and very tasty.

Oh, and the one here also does a fund raising night every once in a while with our kids' school.
