^^ Agreed. Blue would be a jolt on the level of Data's red uniform he sported for one episode. Data in red still looks odd to me. Quick, somebody fire up "Lady in Red" to the lyrics of "Data in Red."

It doesn't need to be this particular line by Spock, but a properly placed in-joke would not bother me. Afterall, movies are supposed to be fun, aren't they?

^^ They definitely need to make the insignia at least that big. Preferably, the uniform shirt should just be a huge insignia with holes for the head and arms.

Given that the one teaser poster we've seen before uses the classic arrowhead emblem and the gold and blue colour scheme, I think it's safe to say that the actual duty uniforms will be the same as what we're used to from TOS.
Right -- and the same with Picard's blue uniform in "Tapestry."
That's one of the things I don't like about the TWOK+ uniforms -- Spock just doesn't look right in red. I did a quick and rough photoshop alteration a while back to see what those uniforms would look like under the TOS color scheme, and I was surprised.

i dont think kirk is a cadet in the film though it could be partly set while he was an instructor at the academy.

Pine doesn't have the same uncanny resemblance to Shatner that Quinto has to Nimoy. So even allowing for the blurriness, these pics don't have the same WOW! factor that the ones of Quinto in pointy ear did. But the first sighting of young (Cadet?) Kirk in what appears to be an ancestor of the Academy uniforms seen in 24th century trek? And in the company of a green Orion woman? Still rates a 'Cooooooooool!' from me!

TOS was full of red/orange jumpsuits, the damned crew wore them all the time, whys that stop a young Kirk from wearing one?

Definitely look like it's a cadet's uniform. It would make sense to see Kirk in various different uniforms/outfits before leading up to seeing Kirk in the iconic yellow/black look, if it is indeed being perserved for this film.
