i'm worried the haters are going to win.

Well, we just won’t let them, okay? Looks like two-seasons-and-done is already a done deal for Starfleet Academy, through no fault of its own, just by virtue of the Paramount/Skydance merger. And in my books that’s already a win no “hater” will ever be able to take away, not from the people making this show and not from fans. And who knows, maybe we’ll be surprised and the show is not only good but it even gets the kind of numbers that lets them produce a third season. But even if that doesn’t happen, two seasons of a Trek show is already a win by any estimation, bonus points if it turns out as good as we’re hoping it will. Best just to ignore the noise.

And it wasn't "the haters" that got The Acolyte canceled. They are irrelevant riff-raff. The Acolyte was canceled because of the cost overruns. Toxic fan babies would love to believe they have that kind of power and influence, but the people who make the decisions aren't even aware that they exist. They're irrelevant to them.

Well, come Thursday I might yet find out that the show is not for me and all the enthusiasm I feel for it right now was misplaced. But even then I won’t regret having looked forward to it. I’m pretty sure I won’t love everything about it, and I’ll be honest, it’s absolutely not what I thought I wanted as a new Trek show. But damn, I’d rather stay positive, hoping it will be good, than already actively hating it for what it might be. Heck, I’m a Star Trek fan, and a brand new Star Trek show is premiering in mere days! To me that’s just so exciting!

As for the “haters”: To quote Tawny Newsome from the Blue Carpet event the other day: “I am excited for the fans to dissect absolutely everything that they hate [about Starfleet Academy]. They will do that because it is a Star Trek rite of passage and we know y'all are going to do it and you're allowed to do it because that is your right as fans.” I think she’s putting a positive spin on what she knows some portion of viewers will do. What they always do when a new Trek is coming out. And if she can decide not to let herself get down by it, why would I?

The shows will succeed on viewership alone and that's up to the individual. Ultimately, the vocal few (myself included) are not that persuasive.

Unless she was planning on him actually being in the episode, I'm not sure why she would need to contact him at all. She doesn't need Brook's permission for anything story-wise.

Because she's a giant Ds9 fan and would have both wanted the excuse to talk to him.

As has been stated already, it would not have been her place to contact him. It would have been the showrunner's. Scriptwriters don't contact the actors.

Unless you count Short Treks, which had 10 episodes overall, and it doesn't look like they'll be doing more (i miss the Shorts, i wish they'd do more )

Well, if Starfleet Academy is any good and indeed discontinued after only two short seasons, then it will be in good company, considering how some of the best Trek outings were cut short before their time: Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Enterprise, and a little show called Star Trek from the 1960s.

yeah, i'll feel a bit silly on Thursday if i find the show isn't for me, after i've been defending it. I'm pretty excited though, after some of the positive feedback i've seen from the premiere

^^This, the Acolyte ended up costing a whopping 29m per episode.

You'd need "Game of Thrones" numbers to justify that.
