Oh they are certainly adding material - many of the clips and released images show scenes that are not described in the book. (but they do not contradict the book)

It's not US only, but watching it from the HBO site is a real pain in the ass, even with a good internet connection. Thankfully there are people who upload the HBO videos to youtube. I think eventually HBO themselves will upload it in better quality.
The preview itself is great - the prologue scene is a bit changed but nevertheless very atmospheric and creepy. The Winterfell and the beheading scenes are great too, but I've seen almost all of them in various previews so I knew what to expect.

You know, it has some changes, some omissions, but frankly that was perfection, even for just 3 scenes. The tone and the feel were exact and the little chap playing Bran seems like a fine little actor. If the rest of the young cast are as good this show is going to be one for the ages!

Just finished watching that little preview and I have to say, it's nicely done
HBO has published a companion site for the show, which contains family trees, information, and for the first time, a partial map of the free cities and land on the other side of the narrow sea! 
EDIT: Looks like it was an in-development site that was not ready for primetime yet, so the links are not working anymore. The finished site will most likely be back up in a week or two at HBO.com.

This site also had huge spoilers in episode descriptions. For example, they spoiled
Ned's death, which is apparently supposed to take place in episode 9.

GoT has a benefit of filming in Nothern Ireland, so that saves them some money.Man, the sets and the costumes all look fantastic. Are we sure this didn't cost as much as Rome? Because I really want this to last more than two seasons.
The show has to last at least 3 seasons, because the third book has the most "WTF, no way it happened!" scenes in it ...
