Is the book as sexual as the show, or is that just hollywood.

Yes, there is a lot of sexual content in the books. Fans do argue about how the sexual content is presented, but as far as how much of it there is, most agree it matches the books pretty well. Expect nudity - this is not a family show.

I've only read about the first 50-100 pages of the first book, but based on that and what I've heard here the show matches up to the book pretty well in that regard.

How popular did you think fantasy was? It's not considered a niche genre for nothing. Boardwalk Empire was watched by more people because it's a genre that appeals to more people. That's all there is to it.

Walking Dead costs exactly $0 extra on your cable bill to watch. HBO? About $10/month more. That right there is going to put a big dent in the ratings.

And by what logic does spending a lot more money on a second season recoup your expenses from the first season? That's the most backward logic I've ever heard. If anything, if they thought the ratings were bad, they would have just let this season wrap up and never mention it again.

Ratings are essentially irrelevant to them. How many people subscibe to HBO and pay that monthly fee, How much foreign networks pay for the rights and DVD/Blueray sales are what matter. Ratings basically only matter to advertiser based networks
GOT is meeting their targets so it was renewed.
Rome was canceled because it was co-produced with BBC and BBC pulled out. HBO admits in hindsight that they should not have canceled Rome.

I'm not sure who you're arguing with. I was arguing that ratings are irrelevant as well and even said that DVD sales are king in another post. I'm not sure how to respond to you because you're effectively agreeing with me...
