First photo of the cast together

This cannot be correct Prime Sarek disapproved of Starfleet. Unless he is not a part of the crew plus he would be on Vulcan with his wife and teenage son Spock.

According to Memory-Alpha

A scene cut from the final script of "Journey to Babel" established that Sarek was previously an astrophysicist before becoming a diplomat. (Star Trek Compendium, 4th ed., p. 89)

So they're canonizing an previously cut fact.

And who said he was serving on the ship? He could just be reoccurring.

Why are so many people assuming that the focus of the show will be solely on the crew of a single ship? That's the way it was done in the past, but this is something different. We already know that the cast includes crewmembers from two different Starfleet ships, some Klingon starship officers, a Klingon admiral, and a Starfleet admiral as well as Sarek. It should be clear enough that the story arc is going to span multiple settings and groups of characters. After all, this isn't episodic TV anymore. It's one big 13-episode arc. So naturally it's not going to be solely about the crew of one ship.

And didn't he oppose Spock joining Starfleet as opposed to disapproving of Starfleet in general?

Sarek cannot be Vulcan Ambassador to Earth and serving on Starfleet ships as well on far flung missions....

Not trying to be snarky or anything, but Sarek can be a Federation Astrophysicist and not necessary a Starfleet Astrophysicist. There are other organizations and agencies within the Federation that aren't Starfleet.

So if Discovery is 10 years before this then Spock won't be in his 20's. Pike's episodes are still TOS.

TOS means the Kirk episodes.

The Cage isn't part of that lineup. It is just an extra, it didn't even air on TV until 1988.

All the episodes of TOS, seasons 1-3 took place in the 2260s.

The Cage is Season 1 Episode 1. It was on tv so its canon.

It isn't part of Season 1. It isn't part of any season. It is an unaired (except after the series ended) pilot.
Season 1 Episode 1 is Where No Man Has Gone Before

I wasn't arguing if it was canon.

Menagerie was part of the season and it shows Spock in 2250s, so it is part of TOS.

STD, therefore, takes place in 2240s and is around 15ish

Yes but that episode didn't take place in the 2250s, only the Flashbacks/recordings.

Subject to interpretations, one can argue that 2250s are shown in TOS in Menagerie and therefore is part of TOS. But I can see your argument as well.

Doesn't matter. At all.

When the producers said this series is set ten years before TOS they mean that it's set ten years before the adventures of Kirk and Spock in the original TV series.

That does not include "The Cage," which BTW was never shown as part of TOS in its original run. There are two episodes comprising the story "The Menagerie" in which a replay of previous events are shown - events which took place thirteen years before the time in which "The Menagerie" is set.

However you want to try to argue the technicality, the producers have set this series ten years before "Where No Man Has Gone Before," not ten years before "The Cage."

Well if it is set when Spock was already in Starfleet makes it even less likely Sarek is a member ot the crew.
