For DS9, the next author is a newcomer to ST, Olivia Wood. She replaces a different newcomer on that part of the story arc, which is why the book is delayed. Delays aren't necessarily planned. They are a combination of giving the book appropriate development time and making a judgement call as to when the best marketing window is opening up.

I'm still wondering why they changed authors. Was the whole book rewritten from scratch? Will the Leanna Morrow version be leaked a few years down the line?

We never saw the Irene Kress "Lost Years" entry, "The War Virus". It was completed, handed in and rejected. Sometimes it happens. AC Crispin completed a third Zar "Yesterday" book, too, and it was never put into production. We never usually see them, but several doomed versions of Gene DeWeese's "Engines of Destiny" were donated to a library somewhere (and Brad Ferguson and Margaret Wander Bonanno have uploaded original, rejected manuscripts over the years).

People complain about delays, but they also complain about sub par books. People complain about the stories they never read, such as a few years ago when a few fans were demanding that entries that didn't make the cut for "Strange New Worlds" should be made available online.

If Leanna Morrow makes it as a published author one day, perhaps the story will come out. Until then, it's not really our business.

I hope that my comments were not misconstrued as complaining. My question was not about the Relaunch Title per-say just about the Biz in general, just one of the things I have been wondering.

Kinda off Topic but what the hey. Speaking of new authors, I'm not sure if in fact he is or not, but the author of the new Titan is excellent IMO, haven't finished it yet but so far so good, I look forward to seeing if Olivia Wood can keep it going. It has to be pretty tough being the next writer on a fan-fav that hasn't had a story in 2 years and to be new to the line on top of that, I have Faith ,

That's Geoffrey Thorne, who's written several Trek short stories, which have appeared in DS9: Prophecy and Change, VOY: Distant Shores, and the sixth and eighth volumes of Strange New Worlds. Titan: Sword of Damocles is his first novel.

Lost Years Part 1 was great.

The Irene Kress book was cancelled.

Instead we got the rest of crap books!?

Well, Irene's book was described as "unpublishable, unfortunately", make what you will of that.

And I disagree most strongly that the second, third and fourth "Lost Years" books were crap. I loved them!

Mind you, Brad Ferguson's original manuscript of "A Flag Full of Stars" deviated somewhat from his intentions, with references to Pike's Number One being altered and other events changing. But the final published product was still good.

As long as we're on the tangent, here are some Lost Years thoughts from me:

The Lost Years is excellent and truly worthy of the hardcover!

Ferguson's comments in VoI indicate that G'Dath was originally intended to die. While part of me is happy that the character survived that book, the momentum of the story definitely drives toward a noble sacrifice, and it had not shied away from consequences before that point. Still, it does give us some new perspectives about life on Earth and picks up several threads from the first book in the series.

Traitor Winds has some nice character moments for the second stringers of TOS, but the story is pretty standard fare, and the cloaking device plot makes less sense with ENT in the mix.

The back cover description of Recovery does not sound very exciting, so I put it on hold until I finish ABH.
