FINAL NUMBERS - $79.2 million Over 3.5 Days

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

UPDATE:

FINAL NUMBERS
$79,204,289 over 3.5 Days!

Thursday - $4 million
Friday - $26,893,975
Saturday - $27,248,613 (+1.3%)
Sunday - $21,061,701 (-22.7%)

JUST AWESOME!!

MONDAY AM: Paramount is reporting that Sunday's grosses were down only 23%, or $21.2M, so that Star Trek ended the weekend with $79.3M.
http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/

If this pans out, this would be much better than the 33% drop initially projected. This would also make the film the third most successful Trek film, unadjusted of course.

Final numbers will be out soon.

Looks like Howard Sterns' prediction ($79 million) was correct! Read in the NY Post today that some big wig at Paramount (can't remember his name & the paper is at work) predicts that the movie will earn $200 million when it finishes its run.

Okay Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman & Lindelof, start working on Star Trek XII!!!

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

^^

Sorry - read the numbers wrong - I remember this board reporting $25M for Thursday, on Friday ...

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Friday was $31M, including the $7M Thursday evening. At least that was what was reported on Saturday.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Wow. Almost 3 million more than forecast on Saturday.

Must've been the surge in mothers yesterday. :p

Hot damn. Now to await what M-Th brings, before sweating weekend 2.

Dare I feel... optimistic, let alone confident?

Is the newly re-coined "swagga" reserved only for girls?

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Yeah, I understand the new numbers. I was saying what was reported Saturday for the poster above me.

I'm really curious about what the weekday numbers are going to be. I'm about to head out to an IMAX showing. Hopefully, its packed.

Phenomenal! Believe me, they're dancining in Hollywood. JJ Abrams is God.

So, I forget, what's that formula used to calculate the total projected U.S. take, the multiplier? Anyone got a projection on that based on these numbers?

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Meh.

A post-Nemesis movie with a new ship and crew nobody's ever heard of would have done just as well.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Awesome news! With this opening, even short legs would carry it to at least $170 million domestic, and I don't think short legs are in the cards at all given the pattern thus far. $200 million+ looks like a very good bet.

Adjusting for ticket price inflation, the highest domestic gross of any of the Trek films is Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which adjusts to about $240 million. So if the new film can hit that level, or come pretty close to it (which, again, I think it will), it's a truly remarkable rejuvenation of the franchise.

Isn't it Friday's take divided into the Weekend's take (minus Thursday?) and then times the weekend take?

So 79 / 27 = 2.92 x 230 total?

I could be talking out of my ass like the Pet Detective, but...

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Fantastic!! It is so great to have people excited about Star Trek again!!! It's been a long time coming.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

I suspected the Sunday estimate was low. At least if you base it on my theatre, which was packed during my showing and the showing before it. And judging by the lines as we left, the showing after it.

Excellent news.

A stunning triumph!

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Well done.

As someone has said, we're sweating on Monday's box office numbers.

If Monday comes in at around $7mil, and drops a little bit each day from Tues to Thurs; and the movie drop by 50% in its 2nd weekend; we could see it take nearly $135mil in total after the 2nd weekend.

Cheers
