Yup, and bunch of us (Mother's Day did not include a Trek event), still to see it next weekend. I'm saying 55mil for next weekends take.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

So glad to see the movie doing so well! :D I've already seen it twice...and plan on catching it in IMAX this weekend.

Re: FINAL NUMBERS - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Excellent news. I'll be really curious to see how much business Angels and Demons does next weekend. I expect Trek to have a good second week.

Re: FINAL NUMBERS - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

It's opening weekend almost doubled Nemesis' total gross, great numbers!

Re: FINAL NUMBERS - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Thursday through Sunday I saw it once per day including the initial IMAX outing Thursday night and a $9 matinee after church on Sunday. So "you're welcome" for the big box office.

OTOH I remind everyone that films fade much more quickly these days than in the 20th century despite fabulous openings. I predict a big fall-off after next weekend. People either wanted to see it or are willing to wait for the DVD.

Holy shit.

Thats incredible

Trust me guys, this is incredible.

The estimates where $3 million out! That doesn't happen often. The Sunday drop was much MUCH lower than anticipated. This is unbelievable. Fantastic.

I say again, Incredible.

That is indeed a very good sign when the movie makes more than was projected.

Go Star Trek!

Re: FINAL NUMBERS - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

great numbers but I'm a little apprehensive. a lot came out of the IMAX showings and from what I could tell, it's the IMAX showings that are packed. so once they're over in two weeks, we're going to see a big decline in attendance, right? or is that already accounted for?

also, I don't know much about these things but why are the IMAX screenings only for 2 weeks? why can't they go on longer?

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Phenomenal! Believe me, they're dancining in Hollywood. JJ Abrams is God.

So, I forget, what's that formula used to calculate the total projected U.S. take, the multiplier? Anyone got a projection on that based on these numbers?

Isn't it Friday's take divided into the Weekend's take (minus Thursday?) and then times the weekend take?

So 79 / 27 = 2.92 x 230 total?

I could be talking out of my ass like the Pet Detective, but...

Doesn't work that way. You can't take a weekend multiplier and extrapolate that out into a final gross.

It's because there are only 140 or so screens nationwide and they have contracts to show various movies. The next one is Night at the Museum 2, which opens up on May 22nd.

probably would have been better had it not been on a mother's day weekend. i know quite a few people who didn't get to see it because they were away with families.

The $21 million is very significant for Sunday. That defies the expectations. It is definitely going to have some good legs. It also defied mother's day! Even BETTER!

Per Theater: Star Trek - 3849 - $19,539!

Sweet numbers! Happy to be very wrong (I had $65 million 3 day - with 5 from previews), but next week will be the first real test vs. some competition... Angels & Demons.

Hopefully WOM keeps this ship cruising for some time into the summer!
