UPDATE:

FINAL NUMBERS
$79,204,289 over 3.5 Days!

Thursday - $4 million
Friday - $26,893,975
Saturday - $27,248,613 (+1.3%)
Sunday - $21,061,701 (-22.7%)

JUST AWESOME!!

MONDAY AM: Paramount is reporting that Sunday's grosses were down only 23%, or $21.2M, so that Star Trek ended the weekend with $79.3M.

If this pans out, this would be much better than the 33% drop initially projected. This would also make the film the third most successful Trek film, unadjusted of course.

Final numbers will be out soon.

Holy shit.

Thats incredible

Trust me guys, this is incredible.

The estimates where $3 million out! That doesn't happen often. The Sunday drop was much MUCH lower than anticipated. This is unbelievable. Fantastic.

I say again, Incredible.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

This shows two things at work. Word of Mouth and Repeat Viewings. Fantastic news, this bodes really well for future days & weekends.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

dam I knew estimates could be out by as much as $2 million either way, I didn't expect a $2.8 million increase :p I wonder if worldwide figures will increase too.

We can only hope.

That's a bit of change. I'll be curious to see what this movie makes in total when it is all said and done. I would also expect it will do large numbers in DVD/Blu-ray, where the real money is made.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Usually the real weekend numbers are usually a bit less than the projection, they don't usually raise that much. Great News..almost 80 million!

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

This is fabulous news! Everyone that I've talked to, including a friend's sixteen year old daughter who has never seen anything Trek related, loved it!

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

The 2nd time I saw it, it was a Saturday afternoon IMAX crowd. Most of these people had never seen a Star Trek movie before. Just weren't that crowd (comic-book-guy at the front of the line notwithstanding). These were the Saturday-afternooners.

The theatre was fully booked, and the audience loved it.

Awesome atmosphere.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

Waiting for someone to put a negative spin on this one (e.g. it still made less than Wolverine's first weekend).

This shows some great word of mouth for the movie, it bodes well.

Take a look! We put the pictures name on everything! Merchandising! Merchandising! Where the real money from the movie is made. Star Trek the T-shirt, Star Trek the Coloring Book, Star Trek the Lunch box, Star Trek the Breakfast Cereal, Star Trek the Flame Thrower! (the kids love this one!). Last but not least, Star Trek the doll. Me. "Live Long and Prosper!" Adorable.

Will there be Star Trek: The Toilet Paper, too? (I love Spaceballs)

Great news about the opening box office. :techman:

Good, I'm glad you got it, and yes! If I were in charge, we would have Star Trek the Toilet Paper. :D

Great news about the opening box office. :techman:

It's wonderful news! I hope it just gets better. I'll be donating $16 more to it this week.

Re: DHD - $79.3 million Over 3.5 Days

I wonder what the numbers would've been if this had been a real 'weekend' number, and not a 'weekend+' number that included Thursday's $27M. Would the movie have made only the $52M ($13M less than even I, the skeptic, predicted), or would it have made a bit more because those who saw it Thursday had to wait for the weekend? I saw it Saturday night at the drive-in, and I'd say less than 1/4 of the spaces were filled; I'm sure the theaters did better than that, but $52M is still substantially less than Wolverine did in the same amount of time.

Excellent news! Almost 80 million. Wow.

Surely a sequel is pretty much guaranteed now?

Thursday made 4 million, not 27
