Final Crisis #6 and Batman

I'm one of those who foolishly believed Barry Allen would stay dead (for at least a good long few years more). With Barry's meaningful death, Wally seemingly accepted and doing well, and already having more Flashes than you could shake a stick at, Barry seemed surplus to requirements.

As I said: foolish.

Bats using a gun didn't really bother me since he was literally fighting a god who was in the process of destroying the earth. Besides, don't they always show Bats using sci-fi "guns" whenever he fights big sci-fi threats? Didn't he have an entire weapons harness he used on Apokalips in that 2nd Superman / Batman trade? Doesn't the Batwing shoot missiles?

I feel the same way. Batman uses weaponry whenever it works for the occasion. It wasn't like he was using an Uzi or a Glock. This was a "scifi gun" against a "scifi threat". He doesn't use guns because a) He doesn't want to kill and b) Against normal threats such as thugs and super villains he has options. Against Darkseid? I think the gun was appropriate.

I wouldn't have given the gun issue a second thought. But Morrison made a point of Batman giving a speech as to how he has a solemn oath against using firearms, and was making an exception this one time. So while I thought it was no big deal he was firing this scifi weapon at a god, Batman apparently thought it was.

Still a bit surprising, even in that context.

I hear that they're bringing in Neil Gaiman to repair the damage Morrison did to Batman(kind of like they brought in Whedon to repair The X-Men, or at the very least make it not as shitty). I think that's pretty cool. Gaiman, who I'm a big fan of, has proven that he has the creative maturity to not pull stunts for the sake of his own pathetic ego, unlike Morrison. Kind of like how Morrison was brought in to repair the damage Winnick did when he brought Jason Todd back without any explanation. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. Just goes to show that DC fans have higher standards then Marvel fans do. They don't care how many books you sell or how much The Internet loves you. If you're spewing out bullshit then they're going to call you on it.

My only concern is that this would be Gaiman's first fore into a mainstream superhero comic. He's a great fantasy writer, but I don't know if he's the best to handle the gritty and less-is-moreness Batman book. Alot of his stuff is very fantasy based, so he might have to tone his stuff down. But, I have no doubt it will be decent. Anything's got to be an improvement.

As memory serves, Gaiman wrote the Marvel miniseries 1606 or something like that which showed the Marvel characters if they existed in the 1600s. And he also wrote Spawn #9 and the Angela mini-series, I believe.

On the subject of Barry Allen and resurrecting heroes, is there any sign of Ted Kord making a reappearance?

I miss Ted :(

I think I read that Ted Kord came back in the Booster Gold comic when BG pulled him from the past, but that it was only for a few issues.
