Films that sucked, but everyone else liked...

For recent films it HAS to be: AVATAR
A lot of people are going to look back and wonder just what was the hype about when they attempt to rewatch it for the initial awe they had.

Everyone likes it? I thought you were trying to convince people that it's not as well liked as some think?

Somewhere else I did say that people aren't liking the movie as a whole(ie plot, pacing) as much as they are liking/loving the visuals. Thus giving it a pass...for now.

I will say *suck* is still harsh for Avatar but it is overrated and down the road others will come to that realization.

A lot of critics didn't. Some critics really condemned it.

I think it's one of Stone's finest works, but I can see the contrarian view quite plainly.

Ditto. I am not a Stone fan to begin with, but I think that is an example of a film where the director is trying to say something, but he isn't sure what it is and is hoping we just fill in the blanks.

The fact that it is about to be banned in China actually makes me want to watch Avatar.

I wouldn't take that as a sign that it's particularly edgy. There are a lot of countries (Malaysia being one of the best examples) that are extremely sensitive about the content of movies/TV shows and will censor and band many things that are tame by North American standards. I think China is one of those countries.

If the masses love something, a movie or whatever, could that production still be considered over-rated? Take the Pirates movies for example. If the first one was over-rated, would people buy into a sequel, let alone two and break records both times? Just a hypothetical question.

Yeah, I'd have to say this is quite possible, and that it has happened.

People seemed to really like it. I don't even know what to say about it... but I thought it was a pretty dreadful way to spend two hours.

I also forgot the Star Wars movies (all of them). I can't stand them, but of course they're pretty popular. To each their own.

And of course, "Hi Christopher, I'm Nero."

I assumed that was intentionally funny, like the rest of the theater. That one got big laughs. Here's this guy that's supposed to be a big nasty villain and is soft spoken.

The only line I REALLY have a problem with is "Either they're going down, or we are."

I felt the "Hi Christopher" line was Bana's way of showing us that this was just a "blue collar" working guy that had quite obviously lost his mind. He is not an evil mastermind, just a guy that has lost everything and couldn't handle it. I thought Bana's delivery of the line was funny and poignant, and was ment to be.

Yeah, I rather liked that scene compared to all the other villains that'd respectfully say "Captain" I mean, you want to kill the guy, but you'll respectfully address him by his rank?

ET: The Extra Terrestrial. I thought that movie was stupid as hell when it came out and caught a lot of flack for that.

So many choices, so little time...

Here are a few:

Transformers (1 and 2): Just plain stupid, and why did they edit these "action" films in such a way that makes it hard to follow the action? Oh, and Michael Bay.

The Fast and the Furious (all of them): Stupid plots, stupider race scenes, and Paul Walker (yeah, he's not in all of them, but his appearance in the first just made me hate the franchise even more).

Armageddon: Another Michael Bay piece of crap.

Independence Day: Dumb plot, see Will Smith comments from prior posters.

Star Trek: TUC: Although I liked it when I first saw it in the theater, there are so many stupid and annoying bits that each repeated viewing just makes me hate it more.
