Favourite Class of Ship

Probably easier to pick out ones I don't like, of which there is 2, Yaeger Class and Curry Class - I know they had to throw them together for DS9, but what where they thinking!

My problem with them is that you could easily kitbash them and not make them crap. You could pull the Currys secondary hull back or make them both Miranda style saucer/nacelle ships

My favourites in no particular order would be:
  • Crossfield class: It looked really weird at first but it grew on me and now I love it
  • Intrepid class: I like that it's smaller, I feel I wouldn't get lost in it and I really like the shape.
  • Steamrunner class: I like the nacelles going through the saucer, it's a weird but cool look
  • Nebula class: A better configuration of the galaxy class components imo; great looking ship
  • Olympic class: Love the sphere, it's a beautiful ship

I think the Yeager has some nice angles, as long as you ignore what it's cobbled together of.

How could I forget the Prometheus Class? I mean, imagine the disappointment that it's a ship that's got more enticing nacelles, and separates in more fun places, promising much action action action, but - just as with the ship having the ability to land and take off from a planet somehow - would never be used for more than one appearance because doing it all the time only loosened the drama within the episode. (yeah but is there no place for some occasional action?)

As a kid I disliked the Olympic. It's funny because I still hate the Daedalus, but the Olympic really grew on me. It's perfect for its mission.

The standard Nebula, with the enormous torpedo pod on top, has to be stronger than a Galaxy.

The Crossfield was hideous when it premiered in that one video. CBS told everyone that it wasn't the full render, and a bunch of us made sure to tell them, respectfully, that the problem wasn't the texture, it was the geometry. The "original" design from Ken Adam was awful. They basically used that for the ugly version of Discovery. Then, before production they adjusted the size and angle of the nacelles, and I think they fixed the neck. It only took a few changes to turn the Crossfield into something special, and I'm really glad that CBS listened to reason.

Federation classes:

1. TOS Constitution/Starship class.
2. TMP Constitution refit/Starship II class.
3. TAS Constitution class.
4. DS9 Defiant class.
5. Excelsior class.
6. Oberth class.
7. Galaxy class.
8. Nebula class.
Here's the thing, since after the run of TOS when the Constitution Class name was retconned in books and documents, would it be fair to called the refit Enterprise TMP to be called a Constitution Class. The design is dramatically different from Matt Jefferies' design and since Starship Class was established in TOS, Constitution Class was a project to refit whatever was left of the Starship Class vessels.

The original graphic showed in "The Naked Now" had the refit schematic, and Picard referred to it as Constitution-class.

In STVI:TUC, Scotty was looking at refit plans labeled Constitution-class:

So, it's very fair.

1. Original Constitution
2. D’Deridex
3. Excelsior
4. sovereign

Starship Class was established in TOS

"Starship" is a TYPE, not a class.

A true "Starship class" would require the existence of a USS Starship, and we can be fairly sure that's not the case.

"Starship" is what KIND of a ship it is, not its class name. "Class" simply refers to the first ship of that kind to be built.

And I really could give a damn what the dedication plaque says. My position stands. The Enterprise, in TOS, is Constitution CLASS (and that's been pointed out in dialogue, which supersedes any dedication plaque), but Starship TYPE. That's the bottom line.

Ambassador has always been my favorite since it appeared, it just strikes a nice balance between all the Enterprises of that time.

A painting of the Declaration Class hangs on my wall to this day, so that's right up there.

Having so many Eaglemoss models changes the outlook a bit as 3D study really helps you gain appreciation. Here, the Shenzhou and Europa Class really step up near the top. Europa is a beast, so the effect of the ritualistic Cleave ship death in the pilot of Discovery is all the more impressive.

Scott Schneider and John Eaves' revamp of the Constitution Class, which combines elements of the TOS ship and TMP Enterprise also has a proud place in my display.

Well you're partially right at least, like lots of things from early TOS, terms were not set, and it was indeed meant to be "Starship Class", as these were thought of as the only ones of their kind, something extraordinary.

Of course, that changed quickly it indeed became a description of type.
