Favourite Class of Ship

If this were top five Eaglemoss models, this would be easy as I only have seven

1 Excelsior-class (the Ent-B refit, although I would include the original if I had it)
2 Oberth-class
3 Akira-class
4 Olympic-class
5 Norway-class
Honorable mention to the Vesta-class (the only other EM model I have is V'ger which really isn't a class of ship)

Taking EM out of the equation, the Constitution-class refit would tie with Excelsior for 1st/2nd place which would bump the Norway out of the top 5, and the Vulcan Suurok-class would probably come in at 5 bumping the Olympic out.
Of course, this top 5 is only reflective of how I feel today... :rommie:

I think I have 26 Eaglemoss models, but didn't get every single one that I like cause I already have some of those as Micro Machines or large Playmates or Revell models.

Big fan of the Sovereign class. Her elegant design and throwback to the Constitution class took my heart straight away. It's such a pity fandom still insists it's a battleship.

I also have a huge softspot for the Ambassador (screen version), Intrepid, Defiant and Akira class.

Sovereign-class for me (of course). And Constellation-class (of course). Ironically I've never been into the Galaxy-class. (Please don't throw things at me now, haha.)

1. Constitution-class refit (especially with the beige deflector and pearlescent paint job)
2. Galaxy-class
3. Andrew Probert Ambassador Class

I love all Starfleet ships in varying degrees but the top three are my all-time favorites.

It's no surprise that the vast majority of ships mentioned in this thread are TOS/TNG era designs. Back when Federation starships were beautifully designed, unlike the modern stuff.

Top 5 for me, in no particular order:

Galaxy
Miranda
Akira
Excelsior
Nebula

^ Who was it that referred to the Galaxy class as looking like ‘a duck trying to swallow a dinner platter’ (or something to that effect)?

A very apt description, in my eyes. YMMV, of course.

Cheers,

That’s funny because I’m always thinking the NX (or the E-J, others) is scraping the underside of the saucer, like it’s a toy and I’m playing with it on the carpet.

But I rather like the gravity-defying effect of the Galaxy’s expansive floating saucer. It’s like the coolest office building you’d ever work in, just flying in the sky.

And it’s the imbalance that makes it unusual and special. It’s about where you live, not the air conditioner attached below — that tech’s gotten smaller, even as it’s gotten more powerful than ever.

I like the Nebula a lot, but I’m always aware that it has no flow. The Galaxy is bespoke, each component almost grows out into its place, whereas the Nebula is another ship’s parts glued together to Miranda it. Like the Ambassador, it needed more work.

STARSHIP CLASS: it's the first and most elegant design I'd ever seen on Star Trek.

GALAXY CLASS: it's not the Starship Class, but I loved it as much.

DANUBE CLASS: Better known as Runabouts; when discovered these vessels were not shuttlecrafts but starships I was intrigued with them even more. They were compact and for me special for it's purposes.

ANTARES-TYPE SHIP: Loved the look of the ship and how its appropriate for the Star Trek world building.

ROMULAN BIRD OF PREY: The sleek design was interesting and very Romulan.

STARSHIP CLASS: it's the first and most elegant design I'd ever seen on Star Trek.

Which starship class? ('Starship' would be more accurately described as a type, not a class.)

For instance, the Freedom class (USS Franklin from STB) and Constitution classes are both Starship class. As is pretty much every other Starfleet vessel we've ever seen.

The "Constitution Class" was originally called "Starship Class" - hence the commissioning plaque on the bridge...

(No, there was no U.S.S. Starship!)

I’m old enough to have been around for TOS but Mr Probert’s Galaxy Class is by far my fav, inside and out. Its like sculpture. Exactly the kind of spaceship-as-art I’d expect to see from an advanced civilization. Also like his version of the Ambassador Class. The original spec Excelsior has grown on me over the decades as well.

Yuck.

Fat rear, fat secondary hull and tiny twig-like nacelle pylons don't make a good design.

Hey now - that's MY ship you're talking about! :p

(On Star Trek Online that's the ship I fly in, and my Star Trek avatar for LARP and my captain in fanfic flies a ship of that class, the refitted USS Adelphi)
