Favourite Class of Ship

Captain Thomas Wilson

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
I collect the models from Eaglemoss but not all of them. I have only got the ones I really like. I have many ship class's that I like the style of but I do have my top 5.

So in no particular order:

1 - Sovereign
2 - Original Constitution
3- Constitution Refit
4 - Sabre (Saber or however you spelt it)
5 - Ambassador.

I would love to know your top 5.

1. Akira
2. The REAL Ambassador, not the hastily-thrown-together-at-the-last-minute hack job we actually saw
3. Steamrunner
4. Constitution (DSC)
5. Saber

Honorable mention: Wells (USS Relativity)

I like most of the main Starships shown in the TV's and movies. The Enterprise refit will always hold a special place in my heart. But I love the version seen in the Kelvin universe I like the Enterprise version seen in Discovery. I like the Reliant. I like the Enterprise E design a lot. The ones that I didn't like that much where the Enterprise D -- I can't stand the Galaxy class. I never liked the Grissom that much or the Excelsior.
For the alien ships I love the D7/K'tinga. I love the bird of prey design. Didn't care much for the Romulan original design from balance of Terror or the main Romulan warbird shown in the Next Generation. I love the new Romulan designs seen in Star Trek nemesis.

Constitution Refit
Defiant
Nova
- specifically the Rhode Island variant
Miranda
Ambassador
- I love both versions: Probert's nicely bridges the gap between the E-B and the E-D, but the other one has a cool throwback design to the Constitution refit.

Here's my Top 5 (I love enough to probably make a top 20+, but I'll restrict myself to 5)

1. Nebula Class
2. Constellation Class
3. Constitution Class (Refit)
4. Galaxy Class
5. Freedom Class

Top 5 Federation designs:
Enterprise E
Cousteau
Type 11 Shuttle
Scout Ship
Akira Class

Others:
Romulan Valdore type
Romulan D'deridex class
Son'a Flagship
Son'a Battlecruiser
Jem'Hadar Battlecruiser

In no order, since squirrels look to me in revered epic awe and take notes:
  • Sovereign Class - despite an amalgamation of Galaxy Class and Constitution-Refit Class, it's got some charm. Shame they changed the color of the deflector dish glow to "cheese kitty whiz yellow". Even bigger shame the movies' content didn't match up with the new exotic look
  • Galaxy-Dreadnought Class - 1701-D refit in ATG was sensational and would really be killer on the big screen. Missed opportunity but the Sovereign is still amazing in looks
  • Constitution-Refit - as iconic as the original 1701 was, the tangible look of the refit from 1979 is just more awe-inspiring. TMP's story is a mixed bag but for some goofy reason, this is the only movie where sfx play a tangible role in selling the story. It's also one of very few sci-fi movies that make a conscious attempt to really show some scale and it's marvelous
  • Constellation - the Stargazer is like the Soyuz class... as painted by Picasso... But four engines, all this power, surging and throbbing, yet under control*...
  • Miranda - the USS Reliant still looks pretty sweet
Honorable mention: The original NCC-1701-C before budget constraints had it pared down

* with apologies to Lenore in "Conscience of the King" and rest assured that I voted for Kodos, not Kang

Interesting fact about the Miranda class. When they showed the design to Gene Roddenberry, he held it upside down and they ended up going with it in that orientation. Originally the nacelles went up, like they do on the Constitution refit.
