Favorite Thing About Each Series.

Seems simple enough. What is your favorite thing about each Star Trek series? It can be in-universe or behind-the-scenes.

For me...

Star Trek - Simple enough. Gene Roddenberry. None of this exists without him.

The Next Generation - The Borg. Such a great enemy, essentially making progress an enemy.

Deep Space Nine - Odo vs. Quark. Great writing and great chemistry between these two.

Voyager - Q. Specifically the episode "Death Wish". It just works incredibly well for me.

Enterprise - T'Pol. Love the character.

Discovery - The cast. Just an incredible group of actors they put together.

Lower Decks - Mike McMahan. He just truly gets the foibles of the Star Trek universe.

Prodigy - The Protostar. Just a great take on the general Trek design ethos.

Strange New Worlds - A respectful tribute to the 1960's 23rd century.

Probably most of these are cliched, but still:

TOS: Let's go on an adventure! Space is the limit! Also, the sense of friendship between the Big Three. (possibly four, if you include Scotty).
TNG: Picard's morality speeches. Even if they're slightly dated today, they drew me in back then and I still remember them fondly
DS9: Shades of grey. Odo/Quark as well
VOY: A growing sense of community on board over the years. They all knew they really only had each other to survive
ENT: The ending credits, knowing that I've made it through yet another episode.

Nah, just joking, regarding ENT. Erm ...

ENT: I find it a bit hard to put into words, but basically, them being the first crew, learning the 'do's ' and 'don'ts' in 'exploration' (e.g. starting very naïve and learning as they went along. That somewhat disdainful T'Pol attitude in the very beginning perhaps wasn't entirely undeserved)

Discovery I'm still not sure what to make of this one. Perhaps, that it tried to be different from the classic Trek mold.

I don't feel I have seen enough of other shows to comment on them.

Star Trek - The way that Kirk, Spock and McCoy play off each other.

The Animated Series
- That shot they always use where one character is so close to the camera that we can only see half of their face.

The Next Generation - It often jokes around but it takes its subjects seriously and takes the time to discuss and explore them.

Deep Space Nine - It developed the setting and had its political situation evolve due to the consequences of choices.

Voyager - The two-parters. Future's End, Scorpion, Year of Hell. They're great.

Enterprise - Archer being absolutely relentless when there's something that needs doing.

Discovery - Those episodes in the early seasons where an arc would lead to a huge fight while Discovery's blowing stuff up outside. They did it in the later years as well but it was never as good.

Picard - The production design. The team went above and beyond to make everything on each set, including the aliens, look absolutely perfect.

Lower Decks - It's obsession with references makes it feel more immersed in the Star Trek universe than any other show since Deep Space Nine. I've never been more convinced that the characters live in that world and have been affected by everything that's happened there.

Prodigy - They didn't screw it up by making it into some unrecognisable Star Trek Xtreme out of a fear that regular Star Trek is too nerdy to get kids watching and buying toys.

Strange New Worlds
- The props. The phasers, the tricorders, the communicators, the little data tape things, they all look great.

TOS: A vision of the future in which we all come together and get better.
TAS: More aliens in the Enterprise crew.
TNG: The Enterprise-D.
DS9: The Sisko.
VOY: A hero ship that isn't named Enterprise.
ENT: The revelation that pre-Federation Vulcans and Andorians were once long-time adversaries.
DIS: More representation.
PIC: The Odyssey-class Enterprise-F becoming canon and seeing the TNG gang back together.
LD: That Star Trek can laugh at itself.
PROD: That a show meant for a younger audience doesn't always mean "just for kids."
SNW: What TOS would have been if "The Cage" was finally picked up in 2022.

Star Trek: Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. They were great together.

TNG: Nostalgia. It was my first series and got me into this franchise

DS9: The widening of the Trek Universe. Star Trek had a set universe long before Marvel came

VOY: The Vediians. One of the underrated aliens in Trek

ENT: The best trilogy of episodes in Star Trek with Azati Prime, Damage, and The Forgotten

DIS: season 2 Saru. He beat Vahari and became a new man

SNW: Anson Mount, Jess Bush, and Melissa Navia

Lower Decks: The 5 (T'lyn included) really do feel like a family

Prodigy: The realization that a Kids show is probably my favorite Trek in the modern era. That and Ella Purnell is Becoming very much in demand.

Picard: They made a sequel to Preemptive Strike and it was probably the best episode of the season. That scene between Ro and Picard was a scene 29 years in the making.

Sorry, in some cases it's more than one thing...hard to decide ;)

TOS The look and styling (ship, uniforms, hair cuts). Characters (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura), Roddenberry's Vision

TNG Guinan, Data

DS9 Story telling, characters and character development

VOY The Doctor, Species 8472, favorite theme

ENT Learning...about first contacts/early interactions with some species (Vulcans, Klingons, Borg...), about technical developments and inventions, about the foundation of the federation. It has hystorical value.

DIS The love story of Stamets and Culber

SNW The feeling, atmosphere and look. Capatin Pike

PICARD Seven Of Nine

TOS - space adventures with likable characters
TAS - extreme levels of crust meets extreme levels of insanity
TNG - thoughtful space adventures, with emphasis on equal rights for minorities
DS9 - Jadzia Dax
VOY - space adventures with likable characters
ENT - season 3's edge, urgency and direction
AOS - Everything I ever wanted in Trek movies
DSC - Michael and Spock's interactions, as kids and adults
PIC - The fanwank explosion of season 3 is quite a sight
LWD - the broken leg in the ageing field. I laughed so hard I saw stars
PRO - Literally all of it
SNW - the Lower Decks crossover was magical

TOS - It was the first, and without it we wouldn't have the rest
TAS - Gave us an idea of what the last year or two of the five year mission was all about
TNG - The Starship Enterprise (commonly called the Enterprise-D, though for me she is THE Enterprise)
DS9 - Quark, and the TNG cast transplants
VOY - The USS Voyager, which is a pretty cool little ship design
ENT - The Theme Song, honestly, but then only from Season 1 and 2
DSC - The USS Discovery design and name, both of which felt very retro for different reasons
PIC - Season 3, 'nuff said
LWD - "IT'S THE TITAN!" IYKYK
PRO - I actually appreciate the outside perspective on Starfleet
SNW - ALL OF IT

TOS - space adventures with likable characters
TAS - extreme levels of crust meets extreme levels of insanity
TNG - thoughtful space adventures, with emphasis on equal rights for minorities
DS9 - Jadzia Dax
VOY - space adventures with likable characters
ENT - season 3's edge, urgency and direction

PRO - Literally all of it
SNW - the Lower Decks crossover was magical

What is AOS? The closest I got was Agents of Shield but that's not Trek.

TOS - The movies were my introduction to Trek.
TAS - Takes me back to Saturday morning in my childhood.
TNG - Can't decide on one thing... a lot of stuff came together here.
DS9 - It often shunned the Big Red Reset Button for real character and plot development.
VOY - The charisma of the cast. It almost counterbalanced the incompetent showrunners.
ENT - Well... it was still Star Trek. And it made Voyager's showrunning not look so bad.
DIS - Lucius Malfoy as captain.
LD - Good for a few laughs. More than a few, actually.
PIC - Despite the dark nature of the stories, it tried to leave us in a bright spot.
PRO - Holo Janeway. And Rok-Tahk. And Murf.
SNW - It combines TOS's fun, TNG's cerebrality, and DS9's character development in one whole.

TOS - For making Star Trek
TAS - For keeping Trek alive during the 70s
TNG - Everything
DS9 - Everything
VOY - Everything
ENT - Everything
DIS - It finally ended
PIC - Nothing
LDS - Everything
SNW - Nothing

TOS: The idea.
TAS: That the animation allowed for a wonderous expansion of Star Trek's world.
TNG: Lwaxana Troi.
DS9: Pretty much everything.
VOY: "Eye of the Needle".
ENT: "Vox Sola"/"Precious Cargo" depending on how I feel.
DSC: The Ralph McQuarrie-inspired Discovery of the teaser trailer (and those little electronic noises Airiam made when she moved).
PIC: The Shaipouin (False Door) card in the Romulan pikhmit game.
LDS: The joy, the glee, the love for Star Trek that it exudes. And Rutherford being lusted after by Kimolu and Matt

. Especially Rutherford...

SNW: The style and the substance.
PRO: Rok-Tahk.

TOS: The great chemistry between the trio of Kirk, Spock and Bones -- together, they are more than the sum of their parts. And, of course, that it laid the foundation for all the core concepts of the franchise.

TNG: The cosy '90s living room' feeling, which includes the respect between the characters. Also, the 'procedural' format of the show, which yielded the best standalone episode SF story ideas.

DS9: That it portrayed many alien races with more depth than any of the previous shows, and deeper character development in a semi-serialized format. Also, the character dynamics -- there are hardly two characters on DS9 you can't combine and there won't be a fun interaction.

VOY: The pre-2017 show I like least, but what I used to see as a flaw can also be considered a virtue: It's more family friendly than the other shows (the animated shows aside).

ENT: Took them a while to really focus on the prequel aspect, but when they did it, I loved it, especially in season 4. Also, likable characters.

DSC: The best thing about it are, imo, the visuals and f/x.

PIC: The nostalgia, plus that it corrected the terrible TNG ending of Nemesis by giving the TNG crew a wonderful closure.

SNW: Perfect modernization of and hommage to TOS' 60s spirit.

TAS: That they got the original voice actors, both in the original and the 2nd German dubbed version.

LD: That it combines weird humor with true respect for the franchise canon. Also, that it's so far the only Trek show my daughter likes watching with me.

PRO: Perfect introduction to Star Trek for kids.
