Favorite Star Trek main character (all series!)

Who is you favorite Star Trek main character?

Trip is my favorite character too, subjectively speaking. Now the most iconic character, the one that characterizes Star Trek would be Spock, but maybe this should be another poll.

I voted Ezri Dax. I rather liked the cute girl next door look she had during DS9 and how well Nicole deBoer handled the character.

Has to be Captain Jean-Luc Picard for me. Close tied-for-seconds would be Data, Worf, O'Brien, Sisko, and Spock.

I concur. :vulcan:
Favoritism tends to be subjective, an emotional response. To make a logical choice is impossible.
I can't really speak for Praetor, but I'm just joking around. And I suppose he is, too. ;)

Of course this is purely subjecitve. Logic has nothing to do with it.

Yep, totally agreed. I was having a laugh, but Spock is still my ever-so-subjective favorite, for, among many reasons, that he was the template 'outsider' character that many sci-fi franchises have tried to replicate over the years, including Trek itself.

He's also better-looking. :vulcan:

My absolute favorite, Garak, is not on the list, so my pick goes to Odo, who is a close second.

I admit that it's debatable whether Chapel, Rand, Arex, M'Ress, and maybe Pulaski should be considered main cast members. But I assume that they won't win anyway. ;)

And yes, you can only vote for one.
Ro Laren made more appearances than M'Ress, but she's not on your list...

I would recognize that as an argument against including M'Ress, but not as an argument for including Ro.

Lt. Kyle, Guinan, Nurse Ogawa, Keiko O'Brien, Molly O'Brien, Q, Alexander Rozhenko, Reginald Barclay, Gowron, Nog, Garak, Rom, Gul Dukat, Weyoun, Martok, Damar, Leeta, Kasidy Yates, the female Changeling, Vedek/Kai Winn, and Admiral Ross all appeared in more episodes of Star Trek than Ro Laren did.

In fact, Garak and Nog appeared in more Star Trek episodes than Pavel Chekov, Tasha Yar or Ezri Dax did (although Chekov manages to surpass at least Garak if we add Chekov's movie appearances... what wonderful things IMDb and Memory Alpha are).

I already acknowledged in my original post that the inclusion of M'Ress is debatable. I attribute that to the fact that there's no definite definition for "TOS (or TAS) main character". Some limit it to the "Significant Seven" who also appear in Star Trek XI. Others don't. For example, startrek.com lists Arex and M'Ress as main characters for TAS. I tried to use the broadest definition here.

It's certainly much easier with TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT where the opening credits can serve as a definite guideline.

It took me awhile to make a pick because it's hard for me to choose between Picard, Data, and Jadzia Dax. Ultimately I think I like Jadzia most, even though I'm such a big Picard fan that I have three Picard action figures and "The Jean-Luc Picard Collection" on DVD. The deciding factor for me is that although there were times when both Picard and Data annoyed me, I've found Jadzia nothing but delightful any time I saw her in an episode (except for in "Meridian"). I can't think of any other regular character who just brightened up any episode whenever they spoke (unless she was only speaking technobabble). Q and Weyoun were guest/recurring characters that I felt had the same effect. When the episode was about her I almost always loved it, and when it wasn't about her she regularly stole in the show with just a few scenes or lines of dialogue. I love the Big 3 of "Star Trek" as well (especially McCoy), but I think Jadzia was the most charming of all.
