Favorite "Oee Off" humor Episodes

"The Magnificent Ferengi" and "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" hands down.

I loved "The Magnificent Ferengi." The finger counting thing, paralleling the same action by Steve McQueen in the original, had me rolling.

Best line in the whole ep: Weyoun after being shot: "I... hate Ferengi."

DevilEyes--Bashir actually SHOULD have recommended a book by Dostoyevsky for Garak to read. I have actually made the case before that Crime and Punishment would be the PERFECT bridge between Cardassian and human culture. Raskolnikov's guilty. You KNOW he's guilty. You know he needs to get what he deserves, and he does. And yet you also have these very human themes of forgiveness and redemption going on...and in the end these happen even as Raskolnikov is accepting his punishment. You also have the very real debate between the Christians and those who believe in the roots of socialism, in the book, and I think that debate would speak to Garak (even if he came down on the side of the socialists, he'd at least SEE how the arguments work).
The Brothers Karamazov would also work well. Even though just one of them is technically a murderer, they are all guilty in some way.

... Not to mention that it's about family. And about a really bad father. And one of the sons is illegitimate. Hm...

I was going to say those, can't get much better than that.

(I have this thing, when I see humor where there's none actually so there's a lot of pretty serious episodes which I find mindlessly hilarious, though.)

That might work. Though I imagine Garak might be disturbed to see the parallel between himself and...

Smerdyakov. Or perhaps Ivan channeling Smerdyakov.

Either disturbed or just plain insulted...I'm not sure which. Probably he'd ACT insulted but BE disturbed.

I would still start with Crime and Punishment, though. The Brothers Karamazov would be next if he got through that. I would also introduce him, if he wanted a real challenge, to Solzhenitsyn. I wonder what he would think of The Gulag Archipelago--and the long reach of ARTICLE 58? A warning from Earth history straight to Cardassia Prime...

I just think they should make a Ferengi Fan Collective, except it would be mostly DS9. That would have most of my favorite comic episodes.

What would be on the Ferengi Fan Collective, I wonder?

You'd have to put in some TNG there.

Disc 1:
Acquisition- ENT
The Last Outpost- TNG
The Battle- TNG
Captains Holiday- TNG

Disc 2:
Menage a Troi- TNG
Rascals- TNG
Bloodlines- TNG
The Nagus- DS9

Disc 3:
Rules of Acquisition- DS9
The House Of Quark- DS9
Family Business- DS9
Little Green Men- DS9

Disc 4:
Body Parts- DS9
The Magnificent Ferengi- DS9
The Emperor's New Cloak- DS9
False Profits- VOY

Any takers?

I would include "Prophet Motive". Quark's Gordon-Gekko-type speech to the Prophets in the end is a MAJOR defining moment for him--and, coincidently, the Ferengi.
